Coralife DI Cartridges

Has anyone tried using the “Coralife Pure-Flo II DI Cartridges”?
I picked one up at my LFS & I noticed that even after running about 5 gallons through it the water looked yellow? When I checked the TDS it read 25! My TDS after my membrane is only 3 so that means that the DI filter was adding TDS to the water? I took it back to the LFS that I got it from & they stated that it was treated with some type of preservative & that I needed to run about 100 gallons through it too rinse the preservative out?

That just doesn’t sound right to me?

Very interesting! I've never used Coralife's before. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Well I’ve let the DI run for about 8 hours a day for three days now & I have been using the water for water changes on my African Cichlid & South American Cichlid tanks. The TDS is down to about 5 now so maybe the LFS was right about needing to flush it out really good? I figure I have run about 60 gallons through the DI so with a 4~1 waste ratio about 300 gal. total.

It could be that they use some type of preservative that affects the TDS readings but is harmless to the tank? Something like the preservative used in the Arag-Alive sand?

I still don't trust it & I placed an order for 5lbs. of DI resin from BFS I have used their resins for a couple of years now & never needed to run any more than several gal. to get a "0" TDS reading.

What I'm the only one to try one out?
I'm just trying to figure out if I may have just gotten a bad one or if they really do need to be flushed that much?

So much fo trying to support my LFS!

With BFS prices & their fast service (my last order was placed on Saturday & I got it Wednesday) there’s really no reason to bother trying to get my LFS to carry any RO supplies!
