| Reef Shark ![]() | Re: Live Rock prices comparison Depends on what you get, and where you get it, as well as whether it's cured or not. For example, MarineDepotLive sells Fiji rock SHIPPED to you for about $160/44 lbs, or about $385/ 70 lbs of nicer quality rock. LFS sell rock for quite a bit higher prices, and it MAY be quality rock fully cured, or it may be dead rock, suitable only for base rock...depends on the store. I've personally seen aiptasia covered dead rock selling for $10/ lb or more, and people who don't know better still buy it.

| Pistol Shrimp ![]() | Re: Live Rock prices comparison Don't forget shipping cost from online stores..... Do make sure your rock is cured. When you get it home, all you have to do is swish it in some clean tank water in a bucket to remove sediment and place in your tank. It is worth the extra money.

| Pistol Shrimp ![]() | Re: Live Rock prices comparison It is the most porous rock which means more anerobic areas for the good bacteria. Also, usually comes with nice colaline growth.

| They misunderestimated me ![]() | Re: Live Rock prices comparison Fiji Rock comes in many different qualities. I however have been more impessed as of late with the varieties of rock coming from Tonga. You can get it in slab, branch, rock (they call it deco) varieties. It seems to ship a bit better with less crumbling during shipping. you will be hard pressed to find rock that will get shipped to you that is 100% cured. If ordered online I would recomend setting aside a tank or tub to make sure it is cured before putting it in with your livestock.

| Reef Shark ![]() | Re: Live Rock prices comparison Jeff's Exotic Fish is considered to be one of the better LFS in the L.A. area, with an EXCELLENT reputation. Odds are, the rock at that price will be good, but not the best you can find, although they do have it listed as "PREMIUM", so it should be above average. You'll have to add shipping to that cost, which could add CONSIDERABLY, depending on where you're at. Check the SHIPPED cost with them, then compare to these places: Fiji Premium Quality Un-Cured Live Rock REEFer Madness Fiji_Premium Page Those places give you the total shipped cost, and are pretty competitive in rock sales. Odds are, they are ALL selling the same Walt Smith rock anyway, so the only possible difference is how long it's been at their facility between receiving it and sending it out.
