Tridacnid Clam Filter!

I've read this Article on Giant Clams several times & have been wondering if anybody has tried it on a smaller scale?

I have a separate 32gal tank that acts as a pre-filter tank in my multi tank system! The pre-filter tank also has a custom surface overflow & a corner inlet/baffle so there would be an area about 16” long by 12” wide by 18” deep that I could try putting one large Tridacnid Clam in? What type of lighting would I need for just a small area like that?

Well most tridacnids need a bit of light but being shallow you could get away with some 175 MH's or a bunch of vho's

what about just using a boat load of cryptic b-valves.... non photosynthetic filter feeders.... if the light proves too much of an ache to fix in ?

Being that my system is a little different than most (see gallery) I have the advantage of having two sumps & a refugium. The refugium gravity feeds to the main tank, So the pre-filter tank acts as a sediment/sump. From what I have read about the crypt zone filters need low flow & the 32gal pre-filter tank (where I was thinking of putting the clam) has about 1200 GPH going through it!
