simple question on clams

For either a 75 or 90 tank with 8x54w T5 lights. what type of clams would I be able to keep under this lighting. I probably won't buy a clam unitl after 6months to a year once this tank is running not counting the time it might take to cycle the tank.

it might take me couple of years before this one is up and running.
(hope it will take less than 2 years to get everything. I'm actually shooting before january 2011. )

Re: simple question on clams

I run Mh so I can't speak to your lighting set up, but I do have a Squamosa clam, which I understand is one of the most forgiving when it comes to light requirements.

Re: simple question on clams

I been researching on clams, I hope i bookmark the site I was at last night, because in the description if the clam is best to use under MH it said. But another site i was checking out the different clams it never had once said T5 just pc and mh and off and on vho's.

Wouldn't T5 HO be above power compact and below T12 VHO's. because I know that MH's is above T12 VHO's.

Re: simple question on clams

Is the T5 setup a hood or a retro kit ? Do they have individual reflectors ? Which ballast are you using with this light setup ?

Re: simple question on clams

I feel pretty comfortable saying you can grow just about anything under 8x54w T5's over a 90.
However, bulb selection and ballast's are going to play a major roll in how successful you will be in thriving vs surviving.

With 8x54w bulbs, you are approaching the energy consumption of 2x250w MH, and the costs are not as much a factor.

Your right Clownfish. For some reason the total watts on the fixture I'm planning on buying. With that fixture afterall we are talking about 432 watts total. So I guess, my question on what type of clams I can keep under this light kinda pretty much answer itself. DOH!!!!!!!!!
