Is this pinched mantle??

I've had this clam for almost 2 years and it's been a picture of health, Grew like a weed. I know this isn't a lighting issue. Changed bulbs 3 weeks ago. This came about all of a sudden. I've read that pinched mantle is more common in croceas and people don't know why it happens. Has anyone here had experiance with this and is this what pinched mantle looks like? If so, what do you do for it?

Your clam looks pretty nice in that picture. What are we looking for?

The edges of the mantle look slightly curled and thier seems to be a slight amount of slime coming up off his mantle.

Re: Is this pinched mantle??

The curl looks normal and the stringy stuff looks like vermetid snails. Very common on clams and not harmful. Snails That Worm Their Way Into Tanks by Ronald L. Shimek, Ph.D. - Reefkeeping.com

Re: Is this pinched mantle??

Although excessive mucous/slime is common with PM it doesn't appear to be pinched mantle.

As Clams like Crocea/maxima grow they will depend more and more on photosynthesis so I wouldn't be so sure as you are that the lighting you have is sufficient. The overextension of the mantle and the fact that it's so light in color is a clear indication to me that it's not and if you new where these clams were collected you would understand.

I'm going to have to stubbornly agree with you. I'm keeping my 260 watt PC's on the back of the tank, but I'm changing the 130 watt PC light that is directly over the clam. I'm getting T-5's. They will be 10 inches above the clam. Do you think this will help?. I saw one for sale, it comes with a 54 watt 10,000 k and a 54 watt actinic. Are you sure this is better than my 130 watt PC?

Is it better ? Absolutely and if you use a good ballast and individual reflectors they will actually outperform some MH setups.

Could you provide a link to this T5 setup ?
