| Social Darwinism victim | Mike's new clam! Mike is beside himself. He got a sweet clam at the reefer's meeting from another member. Can anyone tell me what it is? Mike thinks maxima, I have no idea, and I don't know if Mike asked what it was. I know it was under 250W MH, Mike's tank has 150W and he has it kinda near the top and it seems happy. Didn't like the flash at all though.

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: Mike's new clam! The foot seems to be planted. It "fell" sort of when I flashed it, and it "righted" itself. I haven't, like, poked it or touched it at all to see if it's fixed itself.

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. | Reef Shark | Re: Mike's new clam! You can look at the shape of the mantle, and the scutes on the shell. Duresa clams are generally gold/brown/tan, with some blue or green fringing. If you ever find a blue duresa BUY IT. ~Michael

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: Mike's new clam! Yeah, I just looked up the maximas and the shell is definitely not that ridged as the maximas are. I think I've only ever seen one durasa with blue on it (and oh yeah I'm such a clam expert...) wasn't it here on RS? maybe Morgan's?

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: Mike's new clam! Thanks! Mike'll be happy about that. It's in a spot that gets a shot of direct current every rotation of the hydor rotating doohicky on the return... should I get it out of direct current? I don't want it jumping... Mike's new 'scape is a little steep.

| Reef Shark | Re: Mike's new clam! Croceas are not hard to keep at all provided you have the right conditions. They need TONS of light, and direct flow will cause them to bot open fully. But other than that they are great clams, that are pretty much self sustaining. I have had both of mine for quite a while, and they are growing like crazy. Make sure to keep calcium levels up. Good luck ~Michael
