Snails on Crocea

They arent White like the pictures ive seen of pyrimid snails. They are a brown color there are about 5 or 6 on him but only at night. The snail did have a bit of algae on its shell. What to do?? There is also an asterina star on it. Should i be freaking out?

Re: Snails on Crocea

my rule of thumb is when in doubt, remove the critters... unless you bought them and like them more than your crocea.

Re: Snails on Crocea

Makes sense. I have had these little snails in my tank for a while now. They look like baby turbo snails. There are tons of them on my glass and only a few on the clam. Im going to remove them from the clam anyways though.

Re: Snails on Crocea

If they are on the glass they are probably not Clam Parasites. They tend to congregate exclusively on the clam itself. Plus they are white/tan, and very small.

Re: Snails on Crocea

I was reading up on these tonight and kept reading that there are 2 different species. One that goes after clams and another that goes after snails?

Any thoughts or better info people?

Re: Snails on Crocea

Try to get a pic of the snail. It could be just a harmless algae eating snail. Maybe a stomatella snail as seen here:

It has a fingernail shaped shell and two antennas that poke out of the front. They multiply readily in our reefs so you could have a range of sizes of them. The largest ones that I have in my reef are about 1/4-1/2".

Re: Snails on Crocea

I have some snails in my reef that look like tiny turbo snails, they are very small like 1/8 of an inch or smaller. I think these may be what you have. They dont botehr anything in my tnak, and just clean my glass and rocks, they ONLY come out at night.
