My favorite clam died last week. I've gone over and over what could have happened and talked with my favorite fish store about it and we can't come up with anything that went wrong. I'm bummed.

What are the tank specs and what kind of clam etc?
Perhaps we can help you find out what happened so it doesn't happen again.

24 Aquapod. Teardrop maxima.
150 halide with clam 5-6 inches from light.
Had him about a year.
At time of death, readings were
1.026
440 cal
1260 mag
8 kh
5-10 nitrates
77 deg
Nobody to pick on him. He didn't die overnight. It was a couple days. He didn't have any bleaching and was always really reactive.

From what I've read and heard that is about the life expectancy of teardrops in aquariums. For some reason they don't have the longevity in home aqauriums that regular maximas do.

There was a lot of talk about this over on the Clamsdirect forums.

Sorry about the loss of the clam. They are one of my favorites.

I've kept everything as stable as humanly possible. What is the life span of the regular maximas?

I've seen maximas in aquariums for 7-8 years or more. Clams in general live for many many years.
