Re: Let's see some clams!

Got a new Crocea today my last one was nocked off its perch and i diddnt notice untill it was too late. I upgraded my 68 watts of PC to a 150 watt MH sunpod so hopefully ill get another clam. Where should i put my crocea up on the LR or on the sand? the tank is 12 inches deep from lights to sand in the area that he would be.

Definitely up in the rocks if possible. Crocea's are one of the most light demanding clams, and do best also when they can attach (or foot) themselves to a piece of rock.

Re: Let's see some clams!

there isnt really a place in my rocks that it isnt at risk of being knocked off what should i do? My last crocea died because it was knocked down.

Re: Let's see some clams!

If you have space on your sandbed, here is what I would do:

Buy or use a rock with a nice flat surface and place it on the sandbed. Rest clam ontop of it. Once the clam attaches itself to the rock, firmly wedge the rock into your rockwork. No risk of falling down and it will be nicely planted up in your rocks!

Re: Let's see some clams!

that sounds like a good plan! about how long will it take to attach itself? here is a picture of the little guy he is about 2.5 inches long.

Mine attached itself in about a week (give or take a couple of days). Beautiful little clam you have there! Looks healthy

Re: Let's see some clams!

Ill get a decent size piece of LR then bury it in the sand leaving only a little out and ill wait 2 weeks. Im currently acclimatuing the rest of the corals to the new light. 4 pieces of screen are on top

Re: Let's see some clams!

My clams atatch in about a day or so, sometimes it takes around three days. I know because I take them outta the tank a few times a month to scrub their shells. I do this as a preventative measure against snails.

I saw these clams in person. They are very nice and good sizes. Sonny told me that he ordered small-medium clams from his source and got big ones instead. He priced them as if they were small-medium clams. The price is very good for the size of the clam!

Re: Let's see some clams!

thanks frankie i hope it lasts longer with my MH its on the bottom now but i think ill be moving it up later since i have to get in there anyways to fix my powerhead. I moved it ever so slightly and my xenia threw a fit. on another note How well do clams ship? I would really like to get one that can do fine on the sand. If your willing to sell one that is around 3-5 inches let me know.
