Re: my new crocea!

I love clams!!!! Beautiful clam. On another note, is this your main tank? If it is, you may want to consider moving the cheato. It is a very fast growing macro algae and can quickly take over the tank and put it into a sump if you have one. Just a thought.

Re: my new crocea!

Thanks for all the comments. And Techno-Vicki, it is my main tank and I know cheato grows fast. I keep it in the tank because of Victor. He feeds only on pods, and with this cheato I hope it will help for the pods. I've had the pipefish for over a year. I've tried an AC 70 as a refugium but too many bubbles in the tank and I was scared for the clam. Besides there wasn't many pods in there eother. Most of them are in the tank. So I'm trying to think on something else, maybe an in-tank refugium, where I could control cheato growth. I don't have a sump either. Any idea? This tank is a 20g.

Beautiful clam. Keep in mind that they love the light and croceas are rock boring clams so he will be happier on the rock than on the sand.
Love the colors and it looks like a very healthy animal.

Re: my new crocea!

It's on a flat rock and has started to attach itself, so I hope it will go well, and I have to move this tank in 3 weeks. Should be okay though

Re: my new crocea!

oh well he jumped again. Guess the spot wasn't good. So I took a flat rock from my malawi's tank, cleaned it,and put the clam on it, on the buttom, ad I've put two small rocks around the clam, so it can extend its mantle but won't fall on its side.

Re: my new crocea!

Victor is a type of Pipe fish.

You can do an in-tank refugium easy several different ways. I've seen some people use a suction cup mounted soap dish (heck I've done this) and then I have seen people build a small box out of egg-crate and put it in a read corner of the tank and pille LR Rubble around it in effect create a pod-haven where they can hide/proliferate and still migrate into the main water column to become goodies.

Hope this helps.

Allen

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: my new crocea!

lol yeah forgot to mention Victor is the bluestripe pipefish. I was looking for a Victoria to have the perfect couple.

I like the idea of the egg-crate. What exactly do you put in this box, if you put anything, beside the LR surrounding it.
