| Brunt of all Jokes~ ![]() | Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic Today I was truly saddened, one of the shops is selling what they call "nano clams' these guys are about 1'' long and typically way to cute. So Im thinking they have just about 0 chance of survival. Am I wrong? |

| Smile Maker | Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic I have heard that they are harder to keep the smaller they are. However, there is reef geek out there that can raise these. Many of them are aquacultered. Steve, I have a question? What is the difference between a brown noser and an ass kisser? |

| Totally back ![]() | Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic They are aquacultured outside. Trust me these aren't aquacultured the way coral frags are. They have raceways outside in Vietnam, the Phillipines and elsewhere where these guys are raised right alongside with giant clams headed for the food markets. IMO these 1inch clams are very difficult to keep. And while I am a proponent of keeping a Trimma Goby in a 3-5 gallon tank I am against keeping clams in nano's. They need light and food. Both of which are difficult to provide in nano tanks. AFA as hardiness, I highly recomend looking for clams that are around 3" and larger.

| Ricordea | Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic Hi guys! Doesn't "Nano" have to do with the size of the clam, not the tank that it should go in? I wouldn't reccomend putting ANYTHING in a "Nano Tank", But I do like to buy things for my reef small and watch them grow! My hope is that these "Nano Clams" will go unsold, causing the LFS to stop buying them, thus stopping the trade in 1" clams now. If people will buy them, LFS will order and sell them. Hoping that I don't see them at my LFS! Regards, Dean

| Tubeworm | Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic I made the maistake of buying a 1" maxima, and before buying I only did research on the species not the size. I had the clam for 8 months before it gapped and died.

| Just Mike for short | Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic Quote:
I have always had great success with nanos. 14gl mod Bio-cube ![]() and clams in nanos ![]() if the requirements can be met they can live and grow in a nano just as well as in a larger tank. Nano reefs are just as exciting to keep than larger. | |
