Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic

i bought a nano maxima clam about a yr ago....hes doubled in size and lovin life without suplimental feedings ( or any care whatsoever ) its all about tank stability and the proper environ.

but,,,,i do have issue with LFS pushing them onto reefers without proper setups to keep them. but this is another 55gallon drum of worms~

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic

Nano clams! LMAO! Have they invented the nano tang yet? I have a spare fish bowl.
Here is a picture of a Maxima Hitch hiker i got once a few years back. It was the size of my pinky nail when i found it. In the picture it is abut 1"
I sold it at 4" in the end.

When will they invent them small enough to wear in the pendant around your neck like they do Sea-Monkeys and the such! That's when I get a Nano-Clamo

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic

As long as the person buying them is well informed on their care and realizes they will outgrow the nano tank then it should be fine. IMO

Re: Nano Clams! Sick or Sadistic

Hmmm,.. I haven't seen nano tangs, or nano clams yet for that matter lol.

I did once purposally buy a Maxima that was about 1" just to prove to myself and everyone else that red my FAQ that small clams (Except Hippinos Sp.) don't need to be fed. THat clam is about 3" today, and still growing well

I guess some people don't care if they kill what they buy,.. that's the saddest part.

Glad this was proved I'm sure I would have eventually killed a clam with the bowl feeding technique that was tossed around before. Live and learn
I still feel more comfortable purchasing a 3-4" specimen, even at 3-4x the cost....
