Re: Dip clams?

I think thats a last resort for sickness, not something to be taken lightly, I did a fw dip on one of mine successfully and it really stressed me out, not sure about the clam, are you thinking of a preventative measure or is there a problem?

Re: Dip clams?

I like clam dip as much as the next person but...
I wasn't thinking a fw dip but rather an iodine disinfectant.

Re: Dip clams?

thats kind of bizarre! try cleaning it off and see if it comes back, it looks to be more from the bottom than the mantle

Re: Dip clams?

That is weird. It looks more like coral feeder slime. It could be a worm or something that lives in the rock under the clam. Have you tried moving it? Don't just tear it off if it's attached good! If it is a worm it won't hurt the clam.

Re: Dip clams?

It's definitely from the bottom. It attached to a shell so I can move it. In the morning I suck it up with the turkey baster. It's not very thick, kinda like a runny nose. No snails on it. It's not bleached or open too much. It reacts well to light.

The clam it self looks awesome. Good color and mantle.

Re: Dip clams?

That is a very pretty clam, when mine slimes it comes from the mantle and its not so thick as that, Frankie may be on target (again) lol

Re: Dip clams?

I don't know, looks more like the same stuff I get in my tank from time to time, "vermatids". Check out this link that blue_eyes passed along to me. Maybe the clam has some of these vermitid tubes on it.

Good luck and keep us posted
