settle this argument...

Can someone please settle this "disagreement" between my husband and myself!! I don't know if I trust the LFS's ID

ID these for me please

picture one
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a25.../clams1007.jpg

picture two
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a25.../clams1006.jpg

I have gone on other ID sites to show him the differance in shells, but he still doesn't see any differance at all -- hope you can all help with this one.

Re: settle this argument...

I assume that you mean pic #1 is a maxima, and pic #2 is a crocea?

If so, I lost....I was thinking that both were crocea.

Re: settle this argument...

In that case...wo hooo. I partially won!!! Better than not at all in my books. The LFS sold them as "maximas".

Re: settle this argument...

lfs is wrong, 2 things to look at, one and most important,,,shell scutes, maximas are long and pronounced,,croceas are more ribbed. second, on the mantle, croceas are very commonly seen with the oval markings, where maximas are commonly striated and wide spaced patterns.

Re: settle this argument...

Thanks for the link, I had actually come across an individual page of that link, but couldn't get to "home".

Question though - is it my misunderstanding, or is the pic of the crocea gapping?

Re: settle this argument...

Yes it is gaping and common with the Crocea and can indicate stress.

Re: settle this argument...

Probably want to move those bad boys up to the rockwork as well so they can attach. They don't do as well on the fine sand beds, but can get by on coarse shells or crushed coral. But stick em on the rocks to attach so they stay nice and healthy.
