New Clam Questions

Recently purchased a 4" irridescent blue clam which I believe is a T. Crocea. I currently have him placed on the substrate in a clear area of the tank but think he may be happier closer to the lights. I run 2 x 150 mh and 2 120w true actinic pc these are on a 75g tank. Attached is a pic of the rock in the tank. Should I move the clam higher?

Re: New Clam Questions

Clams this type of clam if it is truely a crocea it dwells in rock not on sandy bottom. After it is placed for awhile on the rock it will attach itself!! Good luck!

Re: New Clam Questions

With only 150w bulbs, you'll need to put it up on the rocks (I assume your tank is 18" to 24" deep). To keep clams on the sandbed, a minimum of 250w bulbs is recommended.

Like marinelover said, crocea's are rock-dwellers anyway, and it'll attach with byssal threads and stay put after a couple weeks.
