started getting live stock for FOWLR

I got her royal majestys purple tang (free) for doing a tank service he/she is about 5 1/2-6in long and nice and fat .

2in undulated trigger $21 also eats well

5in subadult emporer angel just starting to change color just getting a little yellow on the dorsal fin this fish has been at the LFS for 3 weeks because they wanted $149 for it I talked to my buddy who manages the place and he let me have it for $65 and about 3lbs of algae for them to sell so not a bad deal.

still trying to decide what else i'm gonna add to this tank the purple tang is already in the tank the trigger and the angel are in seperate QT tanks and will be added later the angel being the next to go in 2 weeks from now

I think the last of the inhabitants to go in will be a miniatus grouper and a porcupine puffer in that order with the trigger going in a week after these 2 fish go in

all fish are being held in seperate 55g QT tanks with a heater an emporer 400 no bio wheels and about 15lbs of rock except for the angel has about 40 lbs of rock to graze on so i still have the other 2 empty while i wait for the grouper and puffer to come in so how does this sound for a stocking list for my tank any criticisims welcome especially if i need to alter my stocking list before i pay for the last 2 fish.
Thanks in advance
Shaun

BTW all QT tanks are also being skimmed with weekly water changes.

I think you may want to reconsider your bioload and mix.The tang is a great fish but needs lots of space, the undulated trigger is extremely agressive and may empty your tank of its inhabitants in short order and the Angel is another like the tang that needs more room. Adding a Grouper and or puffer is,sorry to say ,equally insane. These are all great fish but the pure size they will get to and the agressiveness of the trigger makes for a disaster in the making. I too am looking at stocking my 110 in the next 2/3 weeks and am going through the same thought process as you . These aggressive fish are sloppy eaters and will create ammonia and nitrate problems that may require a UV sterilizer as I have added. You also have to plan out the introduction order very carefully with these agressive fish and if you keep the trigger he has got to be the last one in . I hope more people chime in here and add to the discussion as Im interested in other peoples experiences here as well. Good Luck and where is Amsterdam NY ? Peter

Hey there whats up ok first of all Amsterdam is about 30miles west of albany so i'm upstate. Now back to the fishy business
Other than the trigger which has been returned for a Niger trigger also a juvenile What are your concerns for space based upon? Also in my above post I mistyped when I put the fact that I wanted a miniatus and a porcupine puffer I have been doing this for awhile I would not add these to fish to my bioload so here is a link that outlines some of my intent with this fish tank the only thing different now is that I do have A uv (picked it up yesterday) And the large skimmer now has a brand name. It is a Nautilus EX made by kent marine. Thanks for reading and the input any more questions are surely welcome.I need some suggestions please

Shaun I saw in another thread of yours that your 150G is more of a deep rather than long tank. Angels and Tangs need lots of swim room to be happy and healthy. So without the Grouper and Puffer you will be much closer to a stable and healthy environment. Your 150g is fine to absorb the bioload but lacks elbow room for the fish. That was my biggest concern besides the demeanor of the undulated trigger. I think you will be a lot better off now with your plan. Its very hard to keep from overstocking when all these great fish are tempting us.

I couldnt agree more about the overstock possibilities especially with a deep tank rather than a long tank. Its just I was afraid you thought i was keeping these fish in a 55g because thats what they are all in at the moment albeit seperate 55s againthanks for the input.

Wow, I just have to say I'm impressed with the investment you have in your QT setup!!!

I just got a purple tang, too. Very cool fish.

HI Hooked really dont have a lot invested in my QT tanks there are 5 55g tanks each with a prism protein skimmer because each tank only will hold one fish at a time and each tank has a few medium peices of LR and are all BB the ones I have for tangs have a lot of Macro algae in them but this serves a dual purpose because I trade alot of macro in for store credit that is how i paid for the skimmers for the 55s and the tanks themselves came from an LFS that went out of business I got all 5 of them for $100 and I light the tanks with suspended shoplights from home depot and the bulbs are GE bulbs also from HD you get 2 of them for about $6 so really I have only about $200 into the QT setup my emporer and purple tang retail for more than that around here. LOL

I always hear about those kind of deals, but only after someone else has scooped them up

What kind of macros do you grow?

I grow gracilaria curtissae,acanthophora specifera,chondria sp.,
sargassum hystrix, ulva fasciata, chaetomorpha aerea, caulerpa prolifera, caulerpa racemosa and caulerpa serrulata. I think that about covers it.

semigod,
Are any of your macro algea the ones that do not go sexual? I am trying to find some good macro for my sump and i was wondering if i could get some from you. Let me know what you recommend for my sump and if you would be willing to sell some of it to me. PM me if you don't mind.

Thanks
Bryan

PSU4me sorry i missed the post you made as for your questions so far I have been lucky to not have any of my algae go sexual on me but Ido have some light on them 24/7 just at night it is only a 15 watt NO so i have not had any problems. but as far as i have been told and things i have read it is the caulerpa algaes that tend to go sexual more than the others. BTW you got PM.
