Harlequin Tusk

Hey RS!
I just got the most beautiful Australian Harlequin Tusk.
I've done some reading but there's nothing like info from people that actually have them.
Any pointers?

Re: Harlequin Tusk

Hey Freddie, is okay with you IF I join in on your thread about the Harlequin Tusk? I searched and you had what I could find as one of few and most recent???
long story short...I have wanted one and on my list for many yrs. I studied, I planned.
Hubby and children got one for me for Mother's Day coming up...it was in a QT at one of my adult children's home. (to be a surprise and well planned by them as it would be qt by M.Day and these adults know tanks).
so there is the brief story lol, suprise got BUSTED and they had to tell me..the H.Tusk shut down eating 4 days ago. I got involved .
Maybe I need to go for help on another thread??? I now they R to be great eaters ect.
For sure the fish had (when I got my first look) parasites...I started treatment..He/she will not eat...
Any advise?
thanks so much,
Ducky

Re: Harlequin Tusk

Freddie, how is your new Harlequin doing?
Witful, your tank and fish are lovely. Nice to know your Harlequin is such a nice tankmate.
I hope Freddie finds some more Harlequin owners to share information.

Re: Harlequin Tusk

Harlequin

"Tuskfish readily accept meaty foods, fresh, frozen/defrosted and live. Crustaceans, shellfish, fish-flesh are all fair game. The best colored, least damaged specimens I've encountered have been kept off live foods; too often these result in the wrasse dashing itself into something hard and/or sharp. There is also considerable anecdotal evidence of increased agonistic or aggressive behavioral problems linked with live food offering.

Hunger strikes of a few days to a couple of weeks (for larger individuals) do not necessarily spell doom. Check your water quality, enact a water change, and proffer a shrimp-like tidbit on the end of a plastic dowel or tubing near the front of your tusk's cave near "night-time". Otherwise don't panic and do something more drastic if your other livestock is fine."
