EEl question!

everytime i see eels in stores they are always in seperate tanks. Not alone but just not two eels in the same tank. Now my question is, can i have another eel in my tank? I already have a snowflake eel, if i add another one will there be a problem? will they fight? My snow flake has already taken down 2 of my small fish so i want to replace them.

EEX: my other 2 fish are fine and good sized and wont get eaten by my snowflake.

BTW: 55 gallon[/b]

Re: EEl question!

If you get another eel you are likely to have even more problems with missing fish.
I've never had one but my LFS usually has several in a tank together. I know someone here is keeping 2 eels together. One was a hitchiker on the rock when they bought a snowflake but I can't remember what kind it is.

A reef tank is like a race car. The faster you go the harder you crash.

Re: EEl question!

yea, but they (snowflakes) can be housed together, we used to keep them in a 40 gallon with pvc galore for them, they hung together in my old LFS

Re: EEl question!

That would be me, Lynn. When I bought my snowflake, a ghost eel was also in the rock. The tank I have the snowflake in also has a clown trigger, picasso trigger, porcupine puffer, and in a few weeks, a miniatis grouper. I also have a foxface in there that has buddied up with the picasso since the picasso seems to own the tank. So far, no problems. The clown is starting to get a bit more agressive so he might head back to the LFS.

My snowflake is about 14" and maybe 1" thick.

I wouldn't mix a snowflake with anything but other aggressive fish.

Re: EEl question!

It's a light brown ribbon eel with a white streak that runs the length of it on top and bottom. Very pretty, very graceful animal.
