Re: Chocolate Tang Question

We need some more details to be of help.
How big is the tank and how long has it been setup ? Did you quarantine your fish ? What is the current fish list ? Was the fish a new addition ? Is the fish rubbing on the rocks or have white spots along the body ? Was the fish netted recently ?

Re: Chocolate Tang Question

A 30 gal tank is way too SMALL for 3 Tangs ! They need room to move and keeping them in tight quarters like you are is going to lead to aggression, stress, disease, and stunted growth. It's possible that it was an inflicted injury or a bacterial infection. What are you using for filtration ? If given proper water parameters it should heal if not then you will need a QT and treat him with an antibiotic.

Ditto.
Even if your water parameteres are perfect that size tank just isn't large enough to house a single tang let alone three.
I would suggest seperating the tangs at the very least before doing any treatments.

Re: Chocolate Tang Question

Please give those tangs to someone with a larger tank. Replace them with smaller fish that suit the 30 gal size.

The cloudy eye could be a bacterial infection. What are the water parameters?

Re: Chocolate Tang Question

Ohhhhh GOOD!

The tangs could develop a bacterial infection even with good water param if they are stressed enough to supress their immune system. I think they will be fine once you move them into the 80 as long as they are still eating. Just make sure there are no signs of parasites before moving them; you should QT them for treatment if so.

Re: Chocolate Tang Question

If they do have a bacterial infection And I do treat them.. what is the best way of doing so... I have read you can do it the natural way raising water temp.more oxygen etc.. If I go the chemical way all I could up north in Canada was PimaFix
and would it be safe for all my Corals ?

Re: Chocolate Tang Question

Do not dose anything in your reef. Cycle a QT and treat them seperately in that. I am not familiar with PimaFix. I would choose a broad spectrum antibiotic and dose it only in a QT. Watch the param because the antibiotic will disturb the nitrifying bacteria.

Re: Chocolate Tang Question

For bacterial issues... frequent water changes and cleanliness will reduce it enough so that healthy fish can resist any infections.

For parasites... keeping the tank fallow (fish free) for 6-8 weeks works well.
