I had him for over a year and he is about 12 inches long.
The problem is that he thows up his food after a day or two. Is that nomal. Feed him silversides and krill.

Re: snowflake eel

I've had my SFE for about 6 years and he's never done anything like that. So IMO that's definitely not normal.
I'm guessing, but it sounds like some type internal infection. Do you see any signs of externel damage? Is his belly swollen? How often is he eating? Is he staying hidden more now? Does everything else in the tank eat the same silversides/krill?
Just a few questions that may help someone figure it out.

Re: snowflake eel

I don't think it is an infection because he has been doing it for a long time. And he seems healthy. His belly isn't swollen. I just thought that when he eat he digest what he can and vomits up the rest. As far as food everyone eats the same stuff. He eats every other day. about 3 krill or one silverside or some clams

Re: snowflake eel

I have seen mine do the same thing, He eats every other day, usually 3 decent sized krill. Doesn't look bad, Trying to teach him to eat from my fingers. Problem is, he looks like he is more interested in my fingers than the krill.

Re: snowflake eel

maybe you're just overfeeding, but as an animal, he doesn't know when to stop eating? you might want to try cutting back on the food a little and see if he throws up less... sounds exactly like what my sister's dog used to do, especially if it involved really yummy food, he'd always eat more than he could handle.

Re: snowflake eel

I feed my SFE like every 3-4 days.. He has never thrown his food back up... But maybe cut back the feeding a little..

Re: snowflake eel

yup ! those are signs of over feeding, and yes do feed every 2-3 days, let him digest his food first,i would feed shrimp, and would have an occassional ghost shrimp.. have you tried ghost shrimp or dead ghost shrimp, my local fish store sells them for 10 for a dollars or some stores for 20 for a dollar

ditto. Sounds like overfeeding. Our 30 inch zebra eel only eats about 4-5 small krill every two days or we give him an occasional crayfish to play with, that meal lasts about a week before he starts moving rocks trying to find more food.
