Search Syntax

what's the search syntax for hits on two (2) words both/words ?

example say I want to search for first AND coral

to return only post with both words in the post "first" and "coral"

not or

what the exact syntax of the search engine here on RS?

Maybe RS could add a link under advance search with some type of help/instruction/examples - would be nice to add. or maybe it exist already & someone could point me to it or a related post with the answer...

I don't know if it can be done. The best you can do is enter your search terms, specify to search titles only or entire posts, specify the forum, and search a little bit.

not even a simple Boolean Search ???

Boolean Search

most fourms I use have something like this...

You can use AND to define words which must be in the results, OR to define words which may be in the result and NOT to define words which should not be in the result. Use * as a wildcard for partial matches

I am going to just take a guess & say... it's not offered, because at the time the decision was made, they didn't want complex searches to slow the forum any.

Maybe one day with new processor speeds, it could be added..

"first coral" should get it but I tried it here and got no hits. On the web it works.

I've exhausted my knowledge (didn't take long) and I can't get anything to work.

It actually works in Google, for the most part. If you put your search term in quotes then put reef sanctuary outside the quotes you should get the post you want. For example, google this:

"Search Syntax" reef sanctuary

and you get this:

"search syntax" reef sanctuary - Google Search

Again, not sure how accurate this is, but if you have something specific you want to find you could try it that way.

One way you can sort of do it is use Google's "site search" function.

go to Google (or if your browser supports it use your in-browser search window) and use site

insert url here)(space)(search terms)

example would be
site:www.reefsanctuary.com "first+coral"

using this you can use "parameters" such as (+, ",- )
