Dr.Drew, NO one should feel threatened. I was merely pointing out what I perceived to be part of a trend starting, and wondered if anyone else saw it too, or if it was merely my imagination.

Again, I'm not trying to point fingers, EVERYONE should be welcome here, just let's be considerate of the other people as well.

On the photo question, I am subscribed to most photo threads so I get an e-mail. It doesn't matter which forum the photos are in. Again there is no conspiracy here, you'll just have to accept that or not, your choice. Travis solution should address everyone's concerns so that issue should be resolved.

I have to say, while I feel that the discussion that this thread has generated is excellent, I am a little disconcerted with the way it was started.

I've got some mounting disillusions with RS and am edging closer to taking my toys and playing elsewhere.

I totally don’t understand this. You’re ‘disallusioned’ with RS and are considering leaving because a thread was moved, and because of a post that was edited several months ago?

I started that thread in Gen. Discussion because when people come to browse, that's where they go

Okay …. Let’s back up. People, AFAIK, go to the home page. The posts made in the Photography forum appear on the home page. Last I checked, the description of the photography forum said: “Photos you want to share? Do you have some good photography tips & tricks? Articles to link? Questions on reef tank photography? It all goes here.”

That sounds to me, as if whoever moved it, used their best judgement in moving it to the appropriate forum. In any case, if you had an issue with it being moved, why not PM or email Travis or myself?

That tells me that you're dishonest and I can't trust you. A big hit to my faith in the honesty of this place.

I will say something here. I am extremely disappointed that you chose a public venue to question the integrity of an Administrator here over something that happened months ago.

I responded that I wouldn't bother posting around here anymore since I felt that I was being watched and I assumed the mods were going to pore over every post, looking for something to nail me on.

Case in point. My sig was deleted without a request to remove it. However, and I will quote one of the mods mentioned in the post about my sig being deleted, "I detest censorship." My sig rings true more now than before.

The person that detests censorship is me. My comment was posted in the OT thread about the FCC. Does that mean that anyone is allowed to post anything they wish in these forums? No. The user agreement is clear on objectionable and offensive postings. Have we made mistakes with over-editing/censoring? IMO, yes. Have some people tried pushing the envelope with every post? Yes. Have we made mistakes … and will we continue to make new ones? Yes.
Can we move on? Can we (both sides) take something positive away from this and move forward?
Please understand that this site is still shy of 5 months old. We are learning as we go. We are all trying to use our best judgement.

The members are the building blocks. You set the tone, self-moderate, and present an "attitude" that welcomes (and retains) newcomers.

Umm, no. We have mods that put a lot of time into this forum, who have tried to use their best judgement to make this the best place they know how. Are they infallible? No. Can we do some things (maybe a lot) better? Sure. But give them some credit. They are doing the best they can with the guidelines (or lack thereof) that they had.

who change history, congratulate themselves with how great they are, brag and making their experience and expertise sound bigger than it is, power cliques of self-congratulating mods, repressing any hint of differing opinions and being pretty mean about it. Oh, and mods and mod-wanna-bes who're so eager to post in every single thread that the atmosphere gets really thick with insincere crapola.

If you are of the opinion that moving a thread to anything but the “General Reef” forum is being ‘shuttled off’, then yeah, that’s going to happen. However, there are multiple forums for several reasons.

See? Your answer seems a little hypocritical to me, because I think it makes an obvious difference and I can't understand why Robs thread was singled out as deserving of being put on the backburner.

You know what? This is getting ridiculous. Nobody ‘shelved’ RobZ’s thread. Nobody ‘singled’ him out. There was no ulterior motive. I’m sorry you’re not getting the answers you want, but the simple answer is this – a mod, whoever it might have been (and it does not matter), moved the thread because they felt that that was the appropriate thing to do. Nobody is sitting around conspiring and saying “let’s move this thread, but not that one”. Someone used their judgment. Okay, so another similar thread didn’t get moved. What is the big deal?

It's possible that you feel you have been getting the runaround because noone really has an answer why that thread was moved vs. another not being moved. We as people have to be expected to be inconsistent at times. We don't always see every thread or post that gets started. Add to this several people, all different, trying to do a similar job, and you can begin to see where confusion can start.

On other sites I appreciate instantly knowing who's a moderator or not. I don't treat them much different [I am one on another site] ... but yet I think it's just good to know.

Yes, of course you can. And I think it’s a good one. I do need to talk with Travis about it, but we’ll let you know the outcome.

Let’s keep this thread going. I’m all for keeping this thread open forever, as long as it’s constructive.

Let me say something. Even amongst us (mods and Admins) we sometimes disagree on policy. Travis and I have made some mistakes in not being clearer about things to our mods. However, in defense of the moderators, they have only done what they believed to be right at the time. Do I agree with every thing that they have done? No. Do I support them 100%? Yes. We are making some changes, and clarifying policies, even now. We are a young forum, Travis and I are both new to the Administrator/Owner role. Please try not to read too much into what we do. I can honestly say that we have no hidden agenda here. I think you’d be surprised if you met us, how easy going we are. I personally hope to raise a toast with as many of you as possible at MACNA in Boston this fall.

I'm guessing my posts since I made those comments has proven that I have moved forward.

I don't think every post I made was an envelope pusher but I clearly admitted to my share of tempting the powers that be.

I have been in your position before crakeur, and still am an a particular board but I have to say I expected to be hounded and dogged because I was stirring it up.

You can always drive a Lexis to the Ritz but you got to dress up or down depending on the venue.

Ok guys and gals, I stopped reading at page 5. We all love this hobby so can all of us put all our differences aside and contribute to this great hobby and focus on helping fellow reefers out with helpful information.

I think the ultimate aim everybody is hoping for at the end of the day is a perfect healthy tank AND less exploitation of our natural reefs. I know it may be difficult to heal some wounds at this point in time but if we had something to focus on (THE HOBBY!), I'm sure time will heal anything.
