Crakeur for the sake of endless banter lets just say we see it from two different angles and have two different opinions on it. Easier on both of us, lol.

All sorts of things happen on threads and in forms. I have spent hours tring to formulate a reply to help a person only to see it get buried by other threads or ignored or taken off topic with chit chat...say la..vie. it happens. and life always goes on.

Something to ponder here is just because a board or community doesnt have the personality you want it to have, doesnt make it a bad place or a place you need to crusade against to change. (that was a general statement and not directed towards anyone in particular)

You know, I don’t want to complicate things but this conversation about the Photo vs General forum brings me back to when I was a mod at RAG and they had just created the photo forum there. Threads like the one in question are hard to quantify, and it would seem that both options are partially right and partially wrong. So I’ve actually pored over the exact same issue, and finally came to the conclusion that either forum for a thread like that is fine… again, which forum it is in is really inconsequential.

So, I think there is a simple solution to this not-quite age-old problem, and a positive step for Admin to be made….

Clear-cut guideline number one: the photography forum is for discussing technical aspects of photography from this point forward. If a member chooses to share their photos in the Gerneral forum, it should be left there. If a member chooses to share photos in the photography forum, it should be left there.

That was easy.

Cheers

Travis

Crakeur, no need to blame yourself for my confusion. Instead, you could blame my four years of college, touring with various bands, and the general lifestyle I lived for my confusion

As for 5-8-77, my tape is fried and my CD has more scratches than one could imagine (which can sometimes make for an interesting Scarlet>Fire). Nicely placed reference I must say...

Take er easy

TG!NO wonder I could'nt find your thread about Robz pics!It was buried under tons of nonsense and unrelated topics! Some Mods perhaps look at your threads as being too attractive and feel a little jealous about your popularity among the members here?

Why did they moved such a prized and wondeful thread that most of the guest and members in general visited in a daily basis?

Sometimes I had checked the page"Who's in line"and counted 24 people and all of them are reading or connected to the same thread(Robz pics)!!

Have I seen the thread attracted people from everywhere?Of course yes!But not because of photography. Many of us are not good with a cam but for sure we are good with coral keeping!

What tankgirl was trying to do here is to bring the pics to your eyes so you could see Robz's quality tank and corals, not the quality of the pics! Some Mods are more into pics than reef tanks!

Now my question is;Will the Mods now see the difference between the two(photography and reefing)?I'm with the Mods when it comes to stop some people that are getting out of control with their mouth! But on the move of Robz pics thread you guys are way off the tracks!

Please TG dont let this incident take you away from us!I'm sure they'll move the thread back where it belong!

Love and peace to all!

VINA

I've obviously missed a lot if we are on page 6. I will get the opportunity to go back and look at the other comments this evening.

I see that more than one person wants photo threads in the general forum and not in the photography forum. If that important to other people too we can sure discuss that. People voted to allow good morning threads in the general forum as long as they also added some comment tank related as well.

If a lot of people think that this is important, then let's discuss it.

Good show!

I think that alot of this is the nature of creating a good board. Visual learners like TG and myself learn by looking as much as by reading and sometimes It is better for us to see pictures. We aren't a huge majority but I am glad that tank, aquascaping pictures are allowed in the general forum.

To the nano reef crew I hope that you feel welcome here. I enjoyed learning a ton from nano-reef and all of you guys and girls, but there also was a ton of stuff that was just nuts. Like ESPI's visual teachings. Though he seemed to always have a method to his madness. I always thought that NR was more hardcore because nano's are somewhat cheaper to setup that you would get alot of people who would set up tanks that are harder to keep without much/any knowledge.

I think that this site is awesome and is big enough for everyone and would be upset if crak and others would leave but also there has to be some code of conduct and that sometimes gets blurry. The longer this site is up the more this will become concise code of ethics or whatever. But in a community this is built by the community and not from the top down. I think that Teri, Travis and all have started a great site but I also think that the community has to be able to have a hand in making the rules. Everyone has to agree and believe in the rules and allow themselves to be judged by those rules. At least thats how it seems to work in my classroom. With any site like this people join it and the rules are already in place so people tend to not have any ownership over the "rules" It is hard to feel a part of a community when the mods etc who basically built the board have the "power" to write the rules.

so the more conversation about what is going on is excellent and the only way to make every feel that they have a part in this community.

I hope I didn't offend bore or label anyone that was not my intent.

Tom

Just as an aside ... personally it's hard to tell who is a moderator or not. Everyone's got different titles ... which is fine I guess, but confuses the heck out of me.

Half the mods I didn't know were until just this thread. I guess I can track that down ... but in some sense it's good to know. On other sites I appreciate instantly knowing who's a moderator or not. I don't treat them much different [I am one on another site] ... but yet I think it's just good to know.

Can I propose that suggestion?

And I do like Travis' new rule.

But I do also understand TG's point. It's a weird undefinable line when on vs. off topic is enforced ... and where it belongs. A difficult line to moderate ... but categorizes the `feel' of a community. I hate to say I really respect and like some members here - but have never really `jumped on board' to much a degree due to the prevailing winds I feel too.

No disrespect, etc meant to be expressed. Just thought I'd throw in my sideline perception ... and what I believe is a very important suggestion. This `who the hell are the mods' reality IMO sucks. Sure, I can search around and track them down ... or I can just go elsewhere where it's figured out for me. Apologies for that attitude, but yet it's reality.

more expensive if you take the dollar per gallon ratio. there were a ton of kooks over there (I was one of them). I think they are everywhere but they were more obvious over at nr because, thanks to that silly movie, everyone was selling small tanks with hippos and clowns.

Curt, I have a rule - no pop ins during tax season. Does wonders for me.
