I'm going out on a limb here, but I can absolutely tell you that we as Mods don't have any favorites. I am sure there is some natural bias as you might see in any family, but certainly not intentional. Alf in no way was picking on Rob's thread in an effort to leave a similar, in topic, thread by Travis.

A lot of stuff happens here very quickly. That is why we have several Moderators. We have busy lives and it is too much to ask of one person to do the job. If there was one Moderator you could, I suppose, detect a pattern of behavior.

Alf popped in, saw the thread in the 20 most recent posts on the home page and moved it. No premeditation and no attempt to frustrate you intentionally.

I'll let Alf confirm or deny my supposition, but I'll bet I'm right. We try to be very consistent, but with all that's going on we come close, but certainly not perfect.

Maybe what we really need is a forum for all members to highlight thier tanks in thier own threads?
We did this on another forum and it was very popular if I recall....

TG, I didn't have anything to do with the thread being moved, and I rarely do move a thread unless it's blatantly in the wrong spot. Maybe it's just me, but I see the photo forum as a place for both talk about photo shots AND highlighting great pictures. JMHO tho.

It's possible that you feel you have been getting the runaround because noone really has an answer why that thread was moved vs. another not being moved. We as people have to be expected to be inconsistent at times. We don't always see every thread or post that gets started. Add to this several people, all different, trying to do a similar job, and you can begin to see where confusion can start.

I don't think it's a slam to the moderators (myself included), but Travis and Teri felt that we knew the ropes since most of us have been mods before. However, different sites have different values as someone stated above, so getting all of us on the SAME values is going to take some time. This site is still relatively new and undeveloped. Give us some time to get on the same page and the inconsistencies will begin to go away slowly but surely.

However, all that aside, I do think it's a feat to have a discussion of this caliber with the level-headedness that everyone has portrayed thus far, despite what has happened.

I think I would agree with you here Craig. As a matter of fact a few weeks ago in a different forum, Alf himself moved my 180 gallon thread to the Photography forum. Being as honest as honest here, I did manifest my emotions to the powers to be. I believe days later another mod moved the thread again to a more appropiate forum.

Rob's thread is not about Photography in my opinion, his awesome ability to take pictures distracts from the real motive of the threads existence, perhaps. I can think of many reasons on why that thread has a different value. And again this is the bottom line of this particular thread IMHO.

Peace,

Luis

Boy I'm just glad I haven't participated in any of the eye candy threads. What's the ruckus all about?

I am glad that a thread like this finally happened, and more importantly that it is being handled with maturity. To you former
NR JCT people: I apologize for calling you out in my "thus Begins
the downward spiral" thread. I don't think I helped boost your popularity any by doing so. The NR people were (agree or not, I do not care) watched like known theives in a Department Store.
I'm throwing my .02 in because I want to be one more person to
say this thread is good! STICK WITH IT. If anyone ruins the productive nature of this thread, I will get Dave ESPI to sign up
here and all will be lost....j/k...only a couple of you will get that one. This is not the reef board for me, but there are some charismatic, knowledgeable people here...newbies and veterans.
Take care of each other. Good Bye and Happy Reefing folks!

Luis, Thanks my friend!!

Craigy, Thanks! The reason I'm here is for threads like Robs and Luis's (and other threads, too, but many of them are pic threads). It's kind of hard for me to believe that any mod would pick ONE thread to do that to, without any bias. I can't buy that very easily. You are a very idealistic person, like I am, so I think we tend to see things in ways that make excuses for people.

Yes, I've gotten more upset but I've gotten replies like;
"it's none of your business"
"it belongs in the photography forum"
and some advice to forget it and make nice-nice. That would drive anyone nuts.
Let's have a vote on whether or not pics should be allowed in the Gen. Discussion forum - or better yet, let's just use our heads - we already know what the answer to that would be, right?
As for Rob's thread being singled out - there's just no criteria for that. It's, beyond doubt or question, one of the most popular threads ever. So, what gives?

Trav, telling me it's none of my business is fine, but if that's your answer, I rest my case about this forum.

I've read every post in this thread and I'm still confused as to what all the commotion is about....

What I see on a day to day basis at RS is really nice... it's an extremely informative and pleasant forum. Kudos to the management .

I suppose moving a thread just isn't that critical to me? ...and deleting possible bad comments sounds like a good idea. JMO

I am sort of with Woodstock in that I really don't see what the big deal is with moving a thread as long as it is still showing up on the homepage? What am I missing here? Is it seen as a personal insult or favortism, is that the reason? Because I never use the "show new threads" tool, perhaps I am missing something here as well but I assumed it would show all new threads, not just those in the general discussion forum. Is it because the explination, or the presentation of the explination was not candid? Is it a combination of all these things? Is there something underlying that I am missing?

Take er easy

Scott: TG is saying that, with less traffic on the thread where it was moved to takes the educational / informational purpose of the thread to be lost to the masses, which was the intent of the thread. Billboard on a side street syndrome.

Gotcha, so the dilemma lies in the organization aspect of the site vs. the educational aspect. Then, would a member tank forum really even help? Ultimatly, it is all reliant on "traffic flow" (to use the billboard analogy) and if people don't visit the member tank forum, then the problem still exists, correct? Any other means of comprimise in order to protect both the educational and organizational integrity of the site?

Take er easy

I blame myself Scott. For the chaos, the debate and most of all, your confusion.

Might I suggest Set Two, Cornell 77?

It always helps me think more clearly.

Wow! Just getting home from work and have to say what a surprise all this has been! I personally didn't have a problem with the thread being in the General forum and did wonder why it was moved and just figured maybe they thought it would be better in the Photography section and really didn't think much more about it. I still go there everyday and check out what is new.

I will step in as say as far as the Good Morning thread goes. I am usually the one that starts that. Montanareefer used to begin that thread but, it looks like i am up earlier than he is now. I don't feel it is an idiotic thread, I just think it's nice to say hello and maybe let everyone know what your plans and such are for the day if you have any. I did not start that thread but, have carried it on.

I also like the idea of having off topic threads. Personally, I think it is nice to get to know other people and what they are like. It's nice to begin to know some of these people a little better and makes you feel more like friends.

Anyway, just thought I would add my .02.
I don't want anyone to leave so, I hope things get resolved in this.
