I'm sure most of it was not reef related! We should just invite everyone to join that just wants to socialize in our OT forum. That way we will set new records everyday.

I don't know about that, Scott. If you look at the main Forums page and look at the statistics for each forum, the General Discussions forum FAR surpases the OT forum. In fact, if you add up the number of posts from all the reef related forums (300,900, not including the marketplace or those forums below it), the OT forum contains about (57,697) 6.1251% of the total.

So of the 1141 posts, probably 70 of them were in the OT forum.

Terry, I'm glad to see that you can perform basic math functions!

However, that doesn't tell why a particular days post counts were higher than any other day. Averaging numbers is gereral and basically gives a trend. What happened on a particular day is specific. Trying to prove someone wrong with basic statistics, who is just making a general statement, is wrong on so many levels!

I'm not sure it should matter, as in my experience the OT forum is just as important in building the community here as any reef discussion... although it does require a bit more work on the part of our staff

If 75% of our posts were OT and we ceased to be a reef forum, I suppose that would be a problem. But I don't see that happening at all. We get hundreds of fresh eyes on the site every day from reef-related searches.

1141 posts is reason to celebrate either way, IMO.

That's more than we got in some months in 2004.

When glampka and I used to moderate on another forum, we always looked suspiciously at any member whose first post was in our OT. An OT is great, but the general threads is what rates you as a good site. As soon as a question is posted in the general threads here, several members jump on it.
