Jack and I made the same observation about the members on this site; everyone is very positive even if they disagree with a post; everyone is supportive of all members; everyone shares ideas without arrogance and a know-it-all tone in their posts and a willingness to look at things from a different perspective. It is truly a pleasure for both of us to be here. Thank you for allowing us to play in your clubhouse.

It's your clubhouse too.
I totally agree. That is how I got into this whole forum thing. I had never used one regularly before but the people were so nice I had to stay.

Re: The Sanctuary

This is why I basically stick to posting at the sanctuary. I've been to other forums and felt their sting! I find there is very little "politicing" here which I absolutely hate in other forums.

I've got agree with Michelle. In fact I've never posted or joined anywhere else after checking out other forums as a guest. This is the friendliest forum around.

I guess some people feel like they have to be members everywhere so they don't miss anything or so they can join all the photo/tank contest or to show off. For me and my modest little tank, RS is all I need.

Re: The Sanctuary

100% the best that I have seen, and I have memberships at oher forms simply because I have different tanks and its really cool to be able to find a place and focus on one aspect of the Hobby. But here i have found that many of the RS group is the same way- very open and very involved in multiple aspects. So i do feel i could introduce something-and either way agree/disagree the responce would be Pos.!

Thats what make RS Special-everyone here wants everyone else to do well, personaly and in the Reefing Hobby. And I have learn so much being here!!!Its scary to think if i didnt come here,I wouldnt be this far along (knolwedge and understanding)

So the enviorment is not only plesant and supportive but productive and progressive.
So thank you RS you made me understand more as well as further captivate me. Deeping me into the Hobby.

Amen

Re: The Sanctuary

My thought is this because Vicki & i have been on other forums the politics on most are really bad as mentioned. The core group of individuals by far not the whole is really arrogant. I know from being in the hobby as many years as I have there is no "right or wrong" way to do things. The best equipment or the most sophisticated equipment can not duplicate the ocean as hard as we try. Every tank is completely different.

I have a friend who was a customer of mine who know has a shop with the same principles & business ethics as I do. We have discussed setting up 2 identical tanks same salt from the same batch, same sand, same rock, lighting filtration etc as an experiment. We already no the out come from being in the hobby. The easy answer is the will be different yet the same.

The thing I see is this if someone has an idea & you think it will work for you try it let everyone know the out come good or bad. Have an idea of your own try it. I don’t think any of use a marine biologists I could be wrong. If there is one please chime in you could shed a lot of light on many things we all wonder about.

Again it is a pleasure to be a part of this club house & I am really glad you leave the ball so everyone can play when you go home.

Re: The Sanctuary

I've had the pleasure of meeting several RS members in person and they're the same way they are on the boards. Friedly, helpful, and informative. Some even eat krill out of the can! I'm glad this is the first board I stumbled across when I started.

Re: The Sanctuary

AQTCJAK - How very true! There are many ways to keep a successful reef and having an open mind is important so that we are careful not to label someones 'different method' a wrong method.

Re: The Sanctuary

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Reef tanks are like snowflakes , no two are alike!

I'm in a profession where arrogance abounds. So much so that some dentists are advertising their services as if they are somehow better than the rest. Of course these "professionals" are preying off the power of the media and the general public believing everything they read and hear. I once got into an argument with a periodontal specialist who was much older than I. He claimed to do the best connective tissue gum grafts in the area because he had been practicing for over thirty years. I told him that the connective tissue graft procedure was just introduced less than 5 years ago, how could his experience with this procedure be anymore advanced than any other periodontist doing this procedure regardless of how long they had been practicing.

My point is, there are self proclaimed experts in every field. The reefing community is no different. These people make it difficult for the rest.

And I will say it again, I think you should use that as a sig line. I have other things to say about being here on RS, but then I would sound conceited so I will just say I am so glad all of you had the pleasure of getting to know me.....

Ok Ok, I am joking. This is my first forum, I sat and lurked as a guest for a long time and then I got a little too close to the edge and fell in. I've been swimmin around here ever since, yepper, good people, good advice, and great encouragement to make you spend more money. What are friends for??? lol
