| Dancing Mandarins | Re: Cespitularia "Blue Xenia"! Hi! I (or I should say Jack) is getting my new prop tank ready to propagate them. I will probably start propagating next weekend, but they will not be ready until I feel the babies are large enough and strong enough; however, it has to be before it gets too hot as well. Timing is everthing I will be sure to P.M. you when they are ready![]()

| Dancing Mandarins | Re: Cespitularia "Blue Xenia"! Propagation issues: I have now propagated for the second time. The first time I cut 6 and attached them to rocks with rubber bands. 2 out of the six lived. I thought it might be a flow issue, but now I know that is not the problem. 3 days ago, I cut anther 6 and attacher them to shells and prop stones. This time I made sure they were in enough flow, and put them in different amounts of flow, hoping to remove slime so bacteria would not grow. Only one of the six are still alive. My next step is to stretch out some of the 'growth arms' and rubber band them to a rock while they are still with the parent stock. After they have attached, then I will cut it away from the parent. I do believe that between the difficulty shipping from overseas (frequently melt) and the propagation issues, that is why they are so expensive. I am still hoping to keep costs down and sell them to others to make them eventually a common coral. I will keep working on it ![]()

| Excellent Guesser :D | Re: Cespitularia "Blue Xenia"! I like that last idea with letting the shoots attach and then cutting. I can see the slime vs flow issue. On shipping, could it be that they are "touching" the sides of the plastic sack? They seem very sensitive to anything touching them. More so than alot of other corals. I sent a frag in a thermos and I glued the rock to the bottom of the thermos to keep it from sliding around and possibly causing damage. Just some thoughts. Hope your experiment is a stellar success. ![]()
