Re: Blake's 46 Gallon Seahorse Tank Chronicle!

Thanks Lynn, and Matt do you really think I will have sucess the first time around? I will have to post pics of my fry tanks when I get them set up so you can see if everything looks good.

So when I break this tank down I will have the left over sand. Can I put it in the new tank or will that spike my params? I need as much sand as possible for my BSJF. He's coming in next week.

Re: Blake's 46 Gallon Seahorse Tank Chronicle!

No problem, and thanks for the compliment. I take pics at least every other day any way so I don't mind posting. I can't wait for the fry.

Re: Blake's 46 Gallon Seahorse Tank Chronicle!

The white-ish orange one is the male trying to impress the female. They change colors though.I missed the transfer if they did, but there is a possiblity he could be preggo. I am getting some fry from a friend who doesn't have the time to raise them in a week though. IF my male is preggo then he is duethe 30th. I haven't noticed a huge increase in pouch size but it is his first time and sometimes they don't get that big.

what happens if I put a pair of SH's in my reef tank? I've seen pipefish in a reef tank.

Re: Blake's 46 Gallon Seahorse Tank Chronicle!

Seahorses requirse a temp of 70-74, low flow, direct and daily feedings, non-agressive tank mates and soft coral(no LPS or SPS) so my guess is that they would die. Sorry, these guys really need a species specific tank.

They will either get stung by the corals or develop a bacterial infection due to the high temperatures. Either way the outcome won't be good.

Blake, you have as good a chance of success as anyone else does. You have the dedication to make it work. I am sure you'll do just fine.

Aw shucks, thanks Matt. I'll try my best. I will be happy just to raise 1 from this batch.

Re: Blake's 46 Gallon Seahorse Tank Chronicle!

I am going to petsmart to get fry tank supplies.Heres the list:
-(2) 10 gallon tanks
-(2)air pumps
-(1) filter I already have one.
-(1)sponge filter

I want to try 2 different setups one with a cycled sponge filter and one with just a filter and daily water changes. I will plumb them into a sump if I can raise a reasonable amount from this batch.

I will have the 10 gallons side by side and have a divider made of plexi glass with holes and screen. On one side I will have the fry and one the other I will have the filter.

I will have to seal the divider in so what should I use? Thanks in advance.

Re: Blake's 46 Gallon Seahorse Tank Chronicle!

Just run a bead of silicone along the edge of the divider to seal it. You can always scrape it off with a razor blade at a later date if you need to take out the divider.
