| Bryozoan | Noob question about pipefish I'm thinking of setting up a 90 gallon with macro algae and non-aggressive fish (firefish, cardinals, blennies, etc). Are there any species of pipefish that I could put in this tank, or do they all need lower tank temps like horses? Can they be in the same tank as shrimp? Thanks |

| Beautiful Katamari ![]() | Re: Noob question about pipefish I think Pipe fish are soo cool but you are right. They do need the same conditions as the ponies. Old Town aquarium almost always has them too.

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Noob question about pipefish Michael is correct, there are a few species of pipefish that will do well at warmer temps. Dragon faced, yellow banded, multibanded, janss' and blue striped area few of them.

| Bryozoan | Re: Noob question about pipefish Thanks guys. I read somewhere to use caution when in a tank with shrimp. Do you know what that could be? I've got a peppermint shrimp in my 37 gal and when I move everything to the 90 I'd like to add either a cleaner or sexy shrimp. Goldenmean - is Old Town still open? |

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Noob question about pipefish The larger species of pipes will most likely try to eat your shrimp. At the least they will pick the eggs off of the abdomen of any shrimp. It makes for a nice snack for them. My pipes love to pick the eggs off of my peps and the grass shrimp I collect. I would not even attempt a sexy shrimp due to their small size. They would most likely become an expensive snack. Pipefish are fairly hardy, just be sure to get healthy specimens and QT them for at least 6 weeks before introducing them into the main tank. You will want this time to make sure they are eating and disease free. This is also a good time to try and train them to accept frozen foods such as mysis shrimp or even cyclopeze depending on what species you get.

| Bryozoan | Re: Noob question about pipefish I keep telling myself the positive side of not going to IMAC is putting that money towards items still needed for my 90 gal I've learned a lot from the short time I've been on here. I figure it doesn't hurt to ask, that way you're not making a deadly mistake. |
