Red face Horn-E kudas

in case im not allowed to say this. after putting them in the main tank last night, they have got to friendly. not with each other, they hate each other each one is rubbing and bumping the barbs it looks a little rough. I thought the kudas were to young .How will i know if the female has eggs .Do you see them before she gives them to the male. Even the male is trying with the male. The barbs are larger than the kudas. so he just moves away.

Re: Horn-E kudas

The female just moved toward the male kuda and snicked his head hard . It looked like a bite, he jerked away. I've never seen that before from any of my horses. is it because their of the same batch, heard, what ever they call it. That brings up ? . does it matter if they mate together. Will the babies be weak.

Re: Horn-E kudas

It's probably just her way of saying she has a headache. They will let each other know when they do and don't want to be bothered.

They can interbreed between the 2 species. No guarantee what the babies will be like. I haven't heard of kuda and barbs cross breeding but doesn't mean it can't happen.

As for the kuda being too young, they are usually sexual mature at about 6 months of age. Your's are essential teeneagers, when have you not seen a horn-e teenager?

Glad you are asking. I was thinking the same thing the other day when I ordered my ponies. I am sure they are coming from the same hatch or whatever it is called and I was worried about in-breeding as well.

Re: Horn-E kudas

Sure they can. It's not considered incest in the seahorse world.

I believe you can go up to4 or 5 generations without showing signs of defects. Of course every case is different and you may see them with the first pairing. Without knowing the horses origin you can't really tell if they are even brother/sister from the same brood of fry or even from the same parents.

Lynn, you can request different lineage. They keep records of all their births and can tell you exactly who the parents of each are.

All of the ones from SeahorseSource are 1st generation CB, I believe they are anyway. All his brood stock is wild caught so as far as they know there pairs aren't related.

Re: Horn-E kudas

I didn't know that. I would think they would be hard to tell after they got the same size. they change color, who can tell which kids belong to who. So i can ask for one of joes kids and one of smiths kids. that way no interbreeding.

Re: Horn-E kudas

They keep all the batches separated and labeled as to what parents they came from. You'd be surprised as to the amount of recording keeping they do.

Re: Horn-E kudas

I only have males so if I get babies it's gonna be a miracle.

Don't worry about the banjos, you won't need them. They will be just fine.
