hey i want a seahorse

hey i have a 30 gallon tank about 30 inches tall.ruffly.i HAVE ANOTHER 10 GALLON I WILL use as a refuge.im getting a new skimmer for my 75 so i will use the old one on this.
What ether equitment should i use?

What type of filtration do you plan on using? Is the tank drilled? Do you have the means to keep the tank at 72-74 degrees?

You will want to set the tank up with a flow rate of about 5-7x turnover ratio. Temperature in the 72-74 degree range. No fast moving or aggressive fish. No SPS or LPS corals. For lighting you can use Either standard fluorescents or PC's depending on what else you have in the tank.

If you can give us a better idea of what you have in mind, we may be able to help you better.

well i live in minnesota i have a problem keeping my reef at the right temp.would i have to use a chiller or set a heater lower.i was thinking of useing a skimmer,hang on back filter with only live rock rubble.the tank is not drilled.i only plan on keeping a seahorse species tank.maybey with zoos or mushrooms and hitching posts.This will probly be in the late winter january maybey.i just need to research be4 i try to keep these mystiqal creatures

If you can't keep the tank in the 72-74 range you will either need a fan or a chiller to do so.

I am not a big fan of heaters in seahorse tanks as the horses like to hitch on them and they will get burned. They do make heater guards to help prevent this though.

You have plenty of time to research so please do so. I/we will help you with any questions you may have.

The 2 species I would recommend are H. erectus and H. reidi. Both are readily available as captive bred specimens from reputable breeders.
