Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Sorry guys been a very busy day.
Ended up getting the Oceanic sump/fuge after all so plumbing had to be re-thought etc. Plus 2 trips to the lfs and at least 3 to Lowes. Water is still not in the tank but it in the mixing cans so should go in the tank first thing in the am. I have an appointment (sort of) to pick out the LR at 2:30 tomorrow. By then I need the water in w/the return and skimmer. Anything else can wait. Even though the rock is cured it will sit for q good liong time before livestock. Probably at a CUC in a month or so and then I really need to wait for my ponies.
Anyway, they are not the best (kids took them with their cam) but I did promise pics so here are a couple of the empty tank. Hopefully will have rock pics tomorrow but no promises at this point, I am beat.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Missed a couple of questions. Sorry
I will be getting rid of the Aquapod. Another RS member has a perfect plan for it so I will be back to 3 tanks just one a lot larger.
I too can't wait to see the ponies in this size tank. I think it is going to be lots of fun and am very excited. I tried the nano route first and even plumbed into the reef just had problem after problem. Likely from the temp so my chiller will be on this tank exclusively plus fans and T5 lights instead of MH. Hopefully this will do the trick. I have a couple of months to test it out and if the temp does not end up where I want it I will just turn it into a reef with softies or get a better light. I think I will be able to achieve the desired temp with this setup though or I would not have done all of this. LOL
Hope I caught all of the questions. If not please re-post them since I am majorly behind.

Comgrats on the new tank Lynn. I can't wait to see the pics with the rock, and the ones with the Seahorses after many months of waiting I'm sure it will all turn out wonderfully!!

I too feel the need for more power but apparently that requires another circuit and other technical electrical stuff. I should be able to make do at least before I get livestock.
The stand actually has a door on each end so I can access it from 3 sides. That is one of the things I really liked about this setup.

Tripod did not come with the tank but did come with my cam so I will do my best to keep up with pic requests. It is going to be pretty empty for a while so it should be pretty easy. Water and rock tomorrow. CUC in about a month. Maybe some gorgs etc along the way but ponies around the holidays.
So we all can wait together. I of course am dying for ponies NOW. fortunately RS has taught me better. I am determined to take it slow and do it right on this one.

Glad you like the tank.
The turtle is a highly endangered species that was being rescued/rehabilitated by the Baltimore Aquarium when we visited last year. I totally forget what kind but it was really cool to watch how they were caring for it and from what I understand it was later released back into the wild. It was also pretty big so even if you could get one it would require quite a habitat. I want to say it was about 2-3 ft across. They had it in a monstrous rehab tank so it looks much smaller than it really is.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Oh, I was kidding on wanting one.... Even if it was small, a sea turtle would outgrow any tank I could provide.. VERY COOL though! I watched a program on discovery one time about a place in FL that rehabs sea turtles. I have only been to florida once... I nearly went to eckard college for marine bio.. Decided florida was too far from home. We stopped by a place called wikki watchie (SP) on our trip that was cool... ever been there?

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

A long long time ago as a kid. I have lived somewhere in FL since I was 5 and spent most of that time in S Fla. I have been in Central FL for abiut 11 1/2 yrs and absolutely love it here. I can't imagine living anywhere else. With that said we are looking at moving in 2010. Hubby's job ends and the youngest kids graduate HS the same year so we will actually have options for the first time ever. He won't even consider moving away from the kids (not that I want him to), and the job thing is another reason to stay. In 2010 it will be verry difficult however for him to find work locally so who knows what may happen then.
Anybody want to help move some tanks?

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Yeah, the turtle was pretty large, we were twenty feet above it and it still looked pretty big. I can't remember the species either, but I was glad to hear they successfully rehabbed it.

Nice tank Lynn, good luck with the build!
