Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Hey Lynn, is anything new happening with the pony tank lately? Still just a box of rocks?

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Well now it is a box of rocks with some rotting shrimp. I guess that is a small improvement. LOL Not according to my nose but it is a step in the right direction. It is looking like my first occupants are not going to be ponies but are going to be a few very placid fish from my other tanks. I have a yellow clown goby and a yellow watchman goby in my 20g and it is just too much bio-load with the clowns and the wrasse. (Wrass is going to be moved too but not to the pony tank.) So I have started cycling the tank. Amonia is rising and things are progressing. This weekend I plan to take all of the rock out and re-scape. It is very crowded now and there are not enough places for the ponies to hitch IMO. I will be adding some other hitches in the form of gorgonian frags from my reef but I have picked out several rocks specifically for their hitching ability and somehow they got burried in the aquascape.
As soon as the weather cools a bit (at least not blistering hot) we will tackle the garage project part of which is moving the chiller to the pony tank. After letting that run for a while to prove I can keep the temp down we will be cycled and ready for some ponies.
If I get the re-scape done this weekend I promise I will put up some pics. Oh I also need to get more sand as well. Maybe this weekend. We will see.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

If you wait until "things cool down" to see if you can keep the tank temperature down, how are you going to ensure the chiller is doing its job when "things cool down". Wouldn't it have been better to test the chillers limits when it's blistering hot outside?

At least give us some pictures to tied us over! You've been slacking!

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

I have definitely been slacking that is true.
While yes it would seem to make more sense to test during the summer you have to realize in Florida we count the number of cold days on one hand. LOL I just want it less than sweltering so I can clean out the garage. The temp will go right back up to the 90s within a day or two. LOL. Actually I think the garage is the plan for the weekend since part of it is hooking up the new ro/di and our old one is in need of new filters so we need to get the new one hooked up. I see Saturday as taking everything in the garage apart and Sunday installing new ro/di, laundry sink, and chiller. I probably won't get around to scaping if I do all of that. All next week the temps will be high 80s and low 90s so that should do fine for a preliminary test. It doesn't cool down here till January and then only for days at a time. I don't even have heaters in the tanks since I am likely to have the heat on anytime the temp is below it's normal temp.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Lets see who gets their pony tank up and running first, you or Billy.

I can't wait to see you progress. This is going to be one awesome set up when it's done.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Billy is getting a pony tank? How cool! He had ponies long ago but ran into similar problems to the ones I had.
Now I have even more motivation. Let's get that garage re-arranged. LOL

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Yup. It was sitting on his living room floor last time I was there. I could up your motivation and tell you that his ponies are sitting here waiting for him to get ready.

I'd show you a pic, but he hasn't even seen them yet.

Re: LCStorc's pony adventure

Well I cycled the tank hard and things are settling down now. I have a huge crop of hair algae in there and just took 2 turbos from the reef and transplanted them to the 90. They seem to have adapted well so I might move more over today. I bought some a while ago for use in this tank.
