Re: Should I do it?

Lynn, ponies for Christmas sounds so exciting! Too bad about the 24, but I think in the end you will be happier with this setup anyway.

With a little finagling, I'm sure it could be fitted to an internal pump.
This is the part I need help with. I would be running it with a powerhead. I like the loc-line but haven't ever used it, what else would I need to hook it up to a powerhead? What type/size powerhead would work best? I won't have a sump on the tank. (Sorry for borrowing your thread Lynn, hope you don't mind.)

Re: Should I do it?

As usual Doc you have a good point. I thought about that for some time as well as the distortion on pics with the bow. The tank is just so pretty it may be worth the price. I was looking at an Oceanic 90 while I was there but I think the dollars are just out of my price range right now. In all honesty the thing I liked most was the stand. The AGA stand is not so hot and the Oceanic stand was beautiful. Since both fit my length requirements I am going to ask the price on the 90 just to see if I can make it work. The price he had listed included MH lights and a wet dry and I don't need either so I'll see what I can get him down to for just the tank, stand, overfow and rock with the T5 lights we looked at. If anything the deeper tank would be great for the ponies.
If the price is a lot more I will go with the bow. It just looks so pretty.

I don't mind at all but I don't know the answers either. I was looking at external pumps to minimize heat.
Hopefully someone who knows will pop by.

Re: Should I do it?

Lynn, if you're looking at a 48" 90 gallon tank, get your arms lengthened first. I have a 110 XT which my wife loves and I hate. That's because all she has to do is to look at it. I'm the one that has to clean and maintain it. Take a look at a 75gallon. Same surface area, same floorspace. Sits on the same stand as a 90 or 110. You don't need to have your arms lengthened.

Or, if you want the Cadillac of 4' tanks, look at a 120 gallon. My idea of what a 4' tank should be.

Re: Should I do it?

Oh, I almost forgot. The tank that Kathywithbirds should have gotten. THE 60 CUBE! Absolutely dynamite in a small (2'X2'X2') package. A single 250w MH (I know that you want T5s) and your tank will love you.

Re: Should I do it?

LOL
Do they pay you commission on the cubes?
I want more viewing room than a 2 ft tank will give me. I have thought about a 75 or even a 55 but I just can't get the bigger is better idea out of my head. I have lots of long grabber things that I use on the 120 plus 2 small ladders so I can reach. Plus there is always hubby power when needed.
I will most likely go with the bow and deal with the glass cleaning issues but so far I have not paid him anything so my options are still open. Unfortunately he is closed on Monday so I can't go review again. I guess it will have to wait for the weekend or see if I can get out of work early one day.

Re: Should I do it?

No, don't get a commission on cubes. I just like a 2' wide and 2' deep tank. Since MH cover 2'X2'x2' that means 60 gallons, 120 gallons, 180 gallons, or 240 gallons. I got cheated a few inches on height or my big tank would have been a 240 gallon. Four 250w MH and the power company loves me.

Re: Should I do it?

If there was comission for such things ASM would owe me lots of money. I think I may just bring my step stool and grabber things to the lfs and see if it is workable or not. If not I know I can work with the bow since it is about the same height or lower than my 125.
LOL and I thought he looked at me funny today. Just wait till I walk in whit a step stool etc. It should be worth it just for the expression on his face.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Re: Should I do it?

Is it an Oceanic? The one at the lfs is and that is part of why I even gave it a second look. If yours is then I would love to compare prices but I suspect shipping would cut into any savings there may be. Plus he is adding the cured LR for $2 per pound and that is a deal in itself.

Re: Should I do it?

Glass Cages and they travel all OVER the country and stuff. They are dropping mine off on Sept 1st for $90. Can't beat that. And the best part is it's about 2/3 the price I have priced this size tank for locally. But I'm not buying the stand/canopy from them. I have a local cabinet builder who owes me a LOT of favors.

Re: Should I do it?

Lynn - Oceanic are great tanks/stands

Congrats Allen! I was looking at their site yesterday. I was researching the use of rigid foam between an aquarium and stand and read that Glass-cages require you place a 3/4" rigid foam under ALL of their tanks or the warranty is void. I found that interesting.
The prices they have are very good. Even the stands & canopies are reasonable.

Re: Should I do it?

Doni I didn't realize they "require" that. To be honest, that goes against what I have read on MANY other glass tank sites about foam. I guess if they require it I'll be adding some FOAM to my stand.

Lynn, be sure to look at their site just in case. Shipping may be a deal breaker if they aren't already coming to an area close to you. Otherwise the prices are pretty darn SWEET. If I weren't having my stand/canopy built I would go ahead and order it as well.

Either way I can't wait to watch yours being built. I'm tickled for you.
