| Star Polyps | Anyone heard of or used this before? Tom Rapid Mini Canister Filter C-80 I was thinking of purchasing this - not using the media - for the seahorse tank that I am getting ready. The only purpose I am considering it for is for the flow rate since my tank is 40g. Any opinions? |

Where did you get this info from? I have powerheads in all my seahorse tanks with no issues. Just be sure to keep the intake covered so that the seahorses don't stick their tails in the impellar. As for the canister, I have one but haven't hooked it up yet. | |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Anyone heard of or used this before? I also have a power head in my seahorse tank. You would have the same potential problem with a canister filter as you would with a power head. It is going to draw water in from somewhere and that is where the potential danger lies. I would not put a very powerful powerhead and I do have a sponge over the intake to spread the intake but other than that I really think you will be better served with a small powerhead. JMO

| Star Polyps | Re: Anyone heard of or used this before? We bought the filter. It's tiny! We have it on the tank right now. When we first started it up the micro bubbles were everywhere...ended up putting a sponge on the end of the output (removed the spray bar) and the bubbles were gone - however the trick was to have the sponge out of the water just enough for the bubbles to escape up rather than down. After a couple of weeks we put the spray bar back on and have had to play with how it sits in the water. It seems having the spray bar right out of the water causes tremendous bubbles (the further from the water the bar the more bubbles), with the bar partly in water - there are hardly any bubbles at all, with the bar submerged in the water cause tons of bubbles. It takes some fiddling but we have the bubble issue solved. For such a little thing there is a fair amount of strong flow coming out. For the purpose we bought it for it's doing pretty good. Though I woulndn't suggest using the "carbon" it comes with - reminds me more of black sponges than anything. |
