2 headed seahorse fry!

Our Reidi seahorses spawn all the time, well one batch we noticed an unusual fry swimming around. This one had two heads!

Anyone else experience this phenomenon?

It lived surprisingly for three days! In general though, we have yet to raise a baby reidi....they are VERY hard!

Great that you were able to take pics. The fry are just so tiny. I wish it would have lived. That would have been seriously neat to have.

Re: 2 headed seahorse fry!

It is a very rare occurance. I have seen pics of it only 1 other time in the 3 years I have been keeping seahorses. From what I've heard their survival is almost non-existant. Seahorse fry need lots of nutrition to support themselves let alone a siamese sibling. With them having no real stomach, I can see them starving to death even though both mouths are actively feeding.

Great pics btw.

Re: 2 headed seahorse fry!

I have only had one baby seahorse live... It was a redi and surprisingly it was out of our first batch, but after three years we had to give it up because, all the tanks, we had 7 at the time, were becoming too much!
