Let's see some of those pony tanks

Here's a few pics of my most recent pony tanks. Please excuse the HA, it does make a great breeding ground for pods which the horses love to hunt for though.

The tank is an Oceanic 30 cube that currently houses 2 pairs of H. erectus of the northern variety. I run a 96w 50/50 PC bulb for lighting, an Odyssea canister filter along with a Microjet PH for circulation.

Re: Let's see some of those pony tanks

Thanks Lynn. I'll se if I can dig up some pics of the ones I used to have. So far I have kept kuda, erectus, barbouri and zostrae. Unfortunately I lost everything last summer to temp spikes in the tanks resulting to a vibrio outbreak.

I collected these guys locally at the end of last summer and am trying to re-establish my herd. I will be buying some from the site I told you about in the near future hopefully.

Sounds like a great excuse for some more acrylic work.

Beautiful ponies. I love them. I am so excited about my new little girls. I'll have to have a photo session with them again today and post some pics.

Re: Let's see some of those pony tanks

Those are the only ones I have. I was ponyless for the last month or so. My kudas unfortunately are all gone. I had one for about a year but he got some sort of infection and passed away. Everyone on seahorse.org said it was because of my temp, so I recently added a chiller to the system. I am hoping they were right and this time I can have them for years.
It is great having you at RS now. There are also several old members who have ponies as well as several new, so if I have a problem I have great resources this time right at my home site.

Re: Let's see some of those pony tanks

Sorry to hear of the loss, but feel free to post pics of the kuda anyway.

I lost all my other horses last year due to a temp spike which resulted in a Vibrio outbreak. 2 tanks of horses lost.

I'll post pics of them when I get a chance.

Re: Let's see some of those pony tanks

That really stinks.
What temp do you keep your tanks? I am having trouble balancing my desired temps. I have my reef and my pony tank sharing a system so I need to find a compromise temp between the reef and the ponies. I have a chiller so I can make it what I want. I'm just not sure what I should make it. I think I am at 77 right now. I turned it down yesterday when I got the ponies. Should I go lower?

Re: Let's see some of those pony tanks

I would say lower. 77 doesn't really allow you any room for a spike in temp.

I keep my ponies in the 72-74 range. In the summer I try not to let them get above 76-77, and even those temps I try to bring down with extra fans and ice bottles.
