Our Seahorse Tank!

This is our 46 gallon Bowfront Seahorse tank. It houses a pair of reidis. The arrangement is fairly simple with a few pieces of liverock, two seafans and lot's of different types of macro algae.

Hope you like

the female out and about begging for food as usual

Their feeding station, basically an open clam shell

the male hiding out, he is pregnant every few weeks!

female again

Awesome setup. I have always had kudas but am considering switching to Redi or Erectus. Anything special you can tell me about the Redi?
Great looking tank BTW. They look quite happy.

These reidis were tank raised, so already they were a lot hardier than many wildcaughts, they were already used to frozen foods and well quarantined, even before hitting the stores.

They mate every few weeks and we have a tank full of babies a week or two after....unfortunately, reidi babies are super hard to raise, they do not latch on to things like many other species, hence they float around the tank, in the process, snicking air. So if you plan on breeding and trying to raise the babies, riedis can pose a challenge. The positives are that they come in many awasome colours, like yellows and reds and when captive bred, they are super hardy and a joy to keep!

Blue_eyes, we feed them once a day, every day PE Mysis in their feeding dish. We remove any leftovers which there almost never is.

Cheers!

Re: Our Seahorse Tank!

For those that are interested in the HUNDREDS of babies that these guys produce every few weeks, take a look:

The male the day before giving birth

What we woke up to in the morning

The fry in thier nursery

The parents were already courting again as I was scooping out the babies!

The proud papa

BTW, this species is VERY hard to raise the fry...we have yet to be succesful.

Re: Our Seahorse Tank!

Lynn,

Have you looked at getting them direct from a breeder? There is a great one right there in Florida, Ft Pierce to be exact. It will guarantee the stock you are getting is healthy and truely CB.

Hey my parents live near there in Pt St Lucie. I wonder if I could go get them in person.
Thanks for the tip.

Re: Our Seahorse Tank!

I believe he would let you pick them up in person. Owners name is Dan, give him a call and let him know I sent you.

It is a family owned and operated business and Customer service/satisfaction is extremelty important to them. And no it's not my family but I do know him personally.
