Talking Diving at the Light House in Belize

I have decided on one of the places I am going to go diving next year. Belize, Lighthouse reef is a 40-mile preserve and one of the most exotic dive spots in Belize, it is perfect for the seasoned scuba diver or snorkler. One of Belize's signature dive site is the Great Blue Hole at Lighthouse Reef. Made famous by Jacques Cousteau's Calypso expeditions in the 1970's, it is said that its formation was during the last Ice Age, 10 to 12,000 years ago, when sea-level was nearly 300 feet lower than today, huge stalactites protrude from the surrounding inward slanting lip of the Blue Hole.

Tell me what you think.

Sounds good! My girlfriend Rocio and I went to Puerto Vallarta last May for a friends wedding, and it wass beautiful. We stayed at an all inclusive resort and that was great. Saved money that would've been spent on food that was available at the hotel. I've never been diving out that way...learned to dive in Hawaii, have dived in Okinawa and the Cayman Islands...let us know how it goes!

Speaking of diving, I know it's winter here in NE, but do we have divers in the Mass. NH. area? I was thinking maybe we could get together in the summer and do a couple of dives. Maybe when some of the reef fish come north. I heard you can see fish right off shore someplace off the cape (cape cod) at a certain time of year.

Ah man, what I would give to go back to Belize...go visit the Crazy Cannuck bar for me (if you will be near the Amberguis Key) and enjoy the snorkling/diving...

Belikins abound along with some incredible underwater sights. Also, try to get in a night snorkle/scuba if you can. Sooooooooo much cool stuff comes out at night and it is a much different atmosphere in and around the reef.

Take er easy

Well at lunch today I will start the ball going for the Belize Trip, I will be the only one going on that one. The Belize trip is July 17 to the 25.

Next I am looking at doing some diving in the Keys. Still have to work this one out. I want to do the diving in the first part on June. I will be taking my two kids on this one.

Next one is a dive in Channel Islands. Started the ball going on this one also. The dive is from July 2 to the 5th. I will be taking one of my children on this one.

Now for the last trip of the summer of 2004. I will be going to Costa Rica. No details on this yet. I want to do it between the Keys dive and the Channel Island dive.

On one of the dives I plan on getting Nitrox cert. Probably on the Keys trip or maybe the Channel Island.

I'm not a certified diver but I can tell ya the water off of the Cape even in the middle of the summer is bone chillin and don't mean to scare ya but watch out for the white sharks that have been hangin around there for the last couple of summers
