Christmas in the Keys

Wanted to post that like new to the site I am also somewhat new to the diving world. I got my cert about 3 years ago but have really only had one dive experience and it will probably not be matched for a very long time. I got the pleasure of doing a live aboard for 3 days off the cost of Australia on the GBR. All I can say is that it was amazing. Anyway since it had been such a long time since getting under the water my brother and I decided to go to Marathon, FL for Christmas. We got ourselves a house on the beach and plan on three full days of diving including the Thunderbolt wreak.

Anyone ever dove around Marathon or done Thunderbolt? If so let me know what it is like.

I also recently finally got all of my expensive gear and am now a poster boy for Oceanic but I love what I got.

Reg = Oceanic Delta 4
BC = Oceanic Excursion (back inflation and I highly recommend it)
Computer = Oceanic ProPlus 2

Re: Christmas in the Keys

oh, you're going to have a blast! my family and i took a two week diving trip to the keys last summer. it's great.
you're probably already back, but i hope you hit largo, it's hands down the best reef diving in the keys. marathon's cool too. and i'm going to be so jealous if you dive the thunderbolt. that's supposed to be amazing.

Re: Christmas in the Keys

I know this is late for your Christmas trip, but it might help someone else. We did a two-week dive trip in the Keys and found a great shop and dive operation in Marathon called Abyss. It is a family owned operation and they gave us great service and wonderful dives the 5 days we dove with them. I would highly recommend them.

Re: Christmas in the Keys

Thats cool. How expensive is it for a decent set-up of diving gear? Only place I've ever been was in the bahamas.

Re: Christmas in the Keys

That should be a great trip. The diving in the Florida Keys is great. I did a lot of diving there in the 70's. John Pennekamp, Marathon and the lower keys. We used to go lobster hunting every year.

ScubaKyle, those are really fantastic pics!!! I love that clam. Between 2 and 2 1/2 feet is a BIG clam! And it has such awesome color too!

I love the pic of the three stripe damsels.
