| Tubeworm | NOAA ISSUES BULLETIN ON INTRODUCTION OF NON-NATIVE RED SEA BANNERFISH INTO FLORIDA WATERS The NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Sciences reports that the non-native aquarium fish, Red Sea Bannerfish, has been found living on Paul's Reef off Palm Beach, Fla. The Red Sea Bannerfish (Heniochus intermedius) is native to the Red Sea in the Middle East, but is sold in the U.S. as a saltwater aquarium fish. It is one of several exotic aquarium fish species that have been photographed or captured in recent years living on reefs off southern Florida. Although this fish is not harmful to humans, it could interfere with the food web and affect species of economic value if it becomes a dominant species on the reef. Once a non-native species becomes established in the sea and affects the local ecosystem, it is often too late to apply control measures. | Reef Shark ![]() | Re: Florida's Banner Fish Lots of non-native "aquarium species" get dumped into the ocean. APparently, there is a breeding colony of lionfish off the Carolinas somewhere, as well as many others that aquarists have dumped into the ocean. Many places are suffering from caulerpa invasions as well.

| Plate Coral | Re: Florida's Banner Fish I saw several exotics (algaes and fish) when I went to Florida for the Fourth of July. The messed up part is that I was in the western Panhandle portion of Florida, near Destin. I did not see the bannerfish this time, but I saw them around 3 years ago at the same spot.

| Serpent Star | Re: Florida's Banner Fish When I put my tank in storage I didn't "free willy" and I still hear about it by the wifey. She didn't forgive me even when I showed this article. In hindsight maybe I should have thrown my fiji rock in the water and hoped that multiplied!! ![]()
