| Midas Blenny ![]() | Re: Do you collect your own fish? most aquarium fish are not considered gamefish so, they are mostly not too restricted as far as collection is concerned.....i know florida has something to the effect of a daily limit on the amount of fish that you can collect....someone posted a link to a page concerning this.....as far as the great state of new jersey, many tropicals are brought up to us via the gulf stream and are fairly common during august (the nj state aquarium collects many of its queen/blue/french/grey angels and queen triggers from corson's inlet using seines and suck guns during that time of the year. butterflys and wrasse are caught on occasion as well) these fish die when it gets cold so, i suppose you could in theory save a few fish if you collect them!

| Acropora | Re: Do you collect your own fish? http://myfwc.com/marine/recreational/recharvestmls.htm You are correct Reef Dave! Recreational collecting certain fish and inverts macro algaes even certain corals is legal in Florida. All that is needed is a Fl saltwater fishing liscense . Commercial collecters must have permits and such. There are strict limits and stiff fines . The FWC officers are very serious. |

| The CodFather ~ | Re: Do you collect your own fish? this year members of the Long island (NewYork)reefers collected lots of tropical species that are being swept up north by the summer currents..these included various species of butterflies, trigger fish and even lion fish !! since these species are not endemic to our area, they are legal to collect. maybe you should try snorkling in your area...you may be pleasently surprised at what makes its way to maryland.

| Tunicate | Re: Do you collect your own fish? I collect fish here in Hawaii. We need to aquire permits from the state dept of Aquatic Resources and send in monthly catch reports. The permits are for Fish and some inverts, NO CORAL, NO LR. As of right now there are no regulations on how much fish you can collect but I think we are on our way to more strict management of the resource. |

| Acropora ![]() | Re: Do you collect your own fish? For you guys in florida... I dive in the John P State Park in the keys alot. I know most everything is protected there... divemaster almost had a heart attack when I brought up a big hermit crab... never thought about catching fish. Is it legal to collect fish there or are they protected as well?
