| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | 5 small fish MIGHT be ok depending on your set up and the types of fish you choose; but I only have 6 fish in my 90 gallon.

| Neon dottyback | The question of five fish being too much depends on the size of the fish. This is kind of obvious. What size and kinds of fish do you have in the system? Generally, you are far beter off with less rather than more. It is possible to set up the filtration and water movement so that you can really overstock a system with fish, and have it all work. However the smallest error or problem will cause a total collapse of the system. This is not something I would recommend to anyone. If you want more fish, or other livestock, get a larger system. It only takes a few losses at $20 to $50 and up per fish or coral to pay for the larger system you really need. |

| Reef Shark ![]() | The standard stocking recommendation is 1 inch of fish (measured at full grown adult sizes) per 5 gallons. That means your 38 would safely house about 8 inches of fish. Now most clown fish get about 3 inches, so a pair of them counts as at least 6" of your total. ABSOLUTELY NO TANGS or ANGELFISH in that small tank. NO TRIGGER FISH, NO LIONFISH. All get MUCH too large for a tank that small, and the tangs need a LOT of swimming room.
