Regal's LOVE to hide! Mine used to get in places where I was certain it was stuck! LOL.. but it knew exactly what it was doing.

i'm relieved.

The regal just came out, but movement outside of the tank (kids, dog, us) makes him go right back into the hole.

I got seaweed selects in the tank to eat until I can get some good nori. Is that good stuff? (the seeweed selects?)

Update: He is out and swimming around. It seems like he has taken a liking to the Royal Gramma's home. The Gramma does not seem to be happy about it.

I do see something that concerns me. One side of the Regal is almost an indention or two that look like he has not eaten. I did not see this at the store. I did feed them just a little while ago and it did not look like he ate anything, he just swam around the guys who were eating.

I movedd the seaweed select up closer to a spot where all of the fish congregate. Hopefully that will help.

Once he finds the seaweed, he'll tear into it!! Just give him another day.

Don't you hate it when a fish is skinny... I purchased my powder blue from saltwaterfish.com and I thought it might die because it was very thin. I could see it's bones . It eats like a pig now though and has gained a lot of weight.

The gramma is chasing him all over the tank. Ther are marks on the Regal's body from the gramma. This is worrying me.

Suggestions for assisting this transition?

That's not good gumby. Hopefully the gamma will stop or atleast reduce the harrassment soon. Is the tang still eating ok? Is it breathing really hard and fast? If it's really stressed, try rearranging the rocks.

Just got back from work.

The Gramma seems to have stopped the beatings and the Regal is swimming around (damn, what a beautiful fish!)

He is pretty much doing his own thing and the others are doing what they always do, hang on one side of the tank.

The Regal looks like he has eaten some and the seaweed selects looks like it has been touched. But i have not confirmed that he is eating by seeing him eat.

He is breathing a little hard, but it looks to be less than when i left to go to work.

I promise I will produce a pic when we get a new camera or get ours repaired.

Is the fish a royal gramma (with a gradual color change from purple to yellow) or a pseudochromis, which has a distinct color change? The pseudochromis are mean critters, especially to new additions.

there is no doubt in my mind that it is a royal gramma. this is my 3rd royal gramma and with exception to being mean to the regal and taking some plants and making a nest , it exibits all of the normal gramma type activities that i have seen in the past.

Update: Dang, this fish can eat!

But it looks like i do have a small bit of ich on him from the gramma beatings. He is still breathing a little more than what I think he should be.

I do have a skunk cleaner shrimp. I hope he uses him.

I will be making a water change tonight.

He is fatter now than when he was at the fish store from eating the seaweed selects, and he looks tons better than he did after the beatings from the gramma.

I moved two of the bigger rocks that the gramma hangs around to the other side of the tank. It seems to work some, the gramma does not seem to be as angry.

Just wanted to let you all know.

James

Great job on rearranging the rock to blur the territorial lines! Glad to hear your tang is much better. I would hold off on adding stress by trying to catch it to treat ich. He should gain his strength and beat the parasite on his own!

A belated congrats on getting this great tang and also for hanging in there and keeping us posted. Adding a little meaty food like mysis fortified with som Zoe or Selcon vitamins certainly wouldn't hurt.
