Re: Blennie flashing

Could be ich manifesting itself.... The blenny in my QT started flashing, and a few days later... spots.

Re: Blennie flashing

The fish are severely stressed by the nitrite and the fact that the tank is still cycling.
You have moved way too fast. At this point your tank has not cycled so you should not have any fish in it and certainly not have a fully stocked tank.
The best thing would be to take the fish back to the LFS or get them in an established tank somewhere. If you cannot do that, then the only chance is water changes large and often. That will delay the cycle but may save the life of the fish.
On a side note, your salinity is pretty low. It really should be 1.025 or 1.026. Short term the lower salinity is fine for the fish, but long term (months) you will want to slowly raise it.

I'm gonna DITTO Lynn. I didn't realize (I mis-read something) this tank is only 5 weeks old. WOW! That's beyond pushing the limits.. you just ran a Drag Car through the limits at Mach 3.1

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Blennie flashing

SORRY I MEANT 5 1/2 MONTHS OLD not weeks
i had my water tested at my LFS and is amonia 0 nitrites 0 and nitrates 10. the only thing i did was add a chiller because my water was hitting 82 some days 84. Could i have done something wrong with the chiller. The only noticeable change was my temperature but it was two weeks after i added the chiller taht they started showing signs. i do 10 gallon water changes every two weeks
