were mandarins reclassified?

I keep seeing people refer to mandarins as blenny's. I thought mandarins and dragonets were in a family of there own the Callionymidae and blennies were the family Blennidae. I saw one LFS had mandarin blenny on the name plate too. Any help?

Re: were mandarins reclassified?

Mandarins are a dragonette not a goby or a blenny.

Re: were mandarins reclassified?

thx for the confirmation. I can see how people would think they are of the same family. Its unfortunate to see the LFS do it and perputuate the error.

LFS?Most of the wholesalers I buy from list Mandarins as either Blennies or Gobies. Many people are just intellectually too lazy to care. It's kind of like spelling. Many people claim that spelling doesn't matter as long as someone can figure out what you mean.Of course those people can't spell..........

Couldn't agree more. Funny to see the discrepancy between wholesalers that do give a dang and the ones that are just there to make money. You see it on the retail end as well.
The ones that do care enough to learn and understand end up with the best/healthiest livestock. The rest suck to put it bluntly.
