Anyone Have A Starkii Damsel?

Are they a nice community fish and reef-safe? One of my fishes just died and I would like to replace him after a few weeks and was thinking of this fish because they're so brilliant blue and yellow but wanted some info first.

Re: Anyone Have A Starkii Damsel?

His potential tankmates include a Starry Blenny, Flame Hawk and a False Percula Clown...would adding a Starkii to that mix be asking for trouble (he would be the final fish added)?

Re: Anyone Have A Starkii Damsel?

That sounds like a lot of fish for a 29g the 3 fish you have all get to be fairly large for a nano as it is

I can't say about Starkii, but if you want a peaceful damsel I'd highly recommend the Canary Damsel. They are solid yellow. I purchased mine from LiveAquaria and it has been great. Eats anything, very active, and hasn't harassed a thing. You can see him on my thread.

Re: Anyone Have A Starkii Damsel?

I'm definitely adding one more fish. I try to make sure the fish I buy don't exceed 4" when fully grown.

There is a reason they are called DAMN SELS.
Also I agree about the bioload. Either get smaller fish or don't get another. Remember the fish grow and what you have will quickly strain your tank.

Re: Anyone Have A Starkii Damsel?

Maybe an Orchid Dottyback would be a better choice? Four fish isdefinitely the max for me and I do skim 24/7 plus if I up the water changes to weekly instead of monthly I believe this would also be beneficial in combating a heavy bioload.

Re: Anyone Have A Starkii Damsel?

Definitely up the water change frequency and volume. Skim wet.
You may be somewhat ok now but I would be worried as the fish grow. That is where you may have a problem.

Re: Anyone Have A Starkii Damsel?

I believe a 5 gallon water change per week on a 29 gallon tank would be sufficient don't you? What about skimming wet, what does that mean (forgive the temporary loss of knowledge...I know I've heard it before and most likely done it but can't think what you mean at the moment)? Also, what about an Orchid Dottyback instead of a Starkii?
