Re: male or female question ??

If you have had it a year, chances are it is a female. All clownfish start out as juvies.. The next stage, they morph to a male, and the final stage, they morph into a female. If you have a tank full of clowns, the largest one will be a female, the next largest, a male, and all the others will be juvies. Once they change sex, they cannot change back. Maroons can be very hard to pair though.. Often, the female will kill the male, or juvi before they form a bond. But, if you are really going to try this, start by removing your presumed female from the tank. Next, mess up all the rockwork you spent hours getting to look "just right". This should break her territory. If you do not do this, the new clown will almost certianly be killed. Next, go to your LFS, and purchase the smallest maroon they have. Make sure it is MUCH smaller than your female. Then introduce them BOTH to the tank at the same time. If you are lucky, they may bond right off the bat. If you are not so lucky, your newly aquired clown will get beat up. or killed. I have also seen some people use a specimen container to aid in the process, Introducing them to each other by visual only, and test to see how they react to each other.

Re: male or female question ??

Be very careful when introducing them. I did everything above and the new clown lasted lest than a day. Maroons are mean critters.
