Re: My new fish

Tim.Im sorry u felt i was making a joke of the fish just the oppisite.I started research on him when i cane home and saw him. Had no idea he was here.nowhere that i have read does it say anything about water temp nor did the lps tell me when i called and inquires about him. I have tried everything to make this guy happy.I am aware that he is not compatable with my tank and have tried many many times to catch him to get him back to lps.I have a person coming today from the lps to see if they can get him.the lol were not about the fish but about how it was aquired and very sorry if it affended you.But beleive me im trying everything to get him back to his best envirement.

Re: My new fish

I made a cool fish trap last week.

I took a 2 litter soda(pop) bottle cut the top off (right where it starts to curve) When I cut it I left a little square lip on one side, cut the hole bigger for fish to swin in, turned it around and drilled a hole into the square lip and bottle body, tied a nylon string to it, put in some food and sank it into the tank.

I catched all sorts of fish and crabs...

Kind of like this:

Re: My new fish

Good on Ya Debby! Your tank & fish will be better off. I think these sea chickens,(local name) are very tough. They are common on shallow water grass flats here in Florida where water temps are very high. If the fish is eating a small baited fishhook with the barb smashed flat will work fine.

Re: My new fish

This is a prime example of why we should discourage our friends/family from buying fish for our tanks as gifts. Gift certificates are MUCH better and you don't have problems like this. PLUS, the "uninformed" who try to do good, often bring us diseased fish or fish that don't work in our particular tank environments.
It's often difficult to break people of this, "Oh she has a saltwater tank, let's buy her this little fish with the cute white spots," and I know people even have problems with their spouses doing this...but they are otherwise not particularly involved with the tank.

Debbie
Show your son this thread.
His intentions were good
but there is a lot more to take into consideration in fish/reef keeping.

Re: My new fish

Those are very tough fish. We catch them all the time at Carolina beach. I have caught them in the middle of july in back waters where the water temp was 85. But they do get VERY big. AND Will eat all you pretty little fish. I have caught a 5 inch sea-robin on a 8 inch finger mullet. He was not even hooked. He just swallowed it half way and could not regurgitate it. Kinda funny.

I hope you get everything worked out.

Re: My new fish

You could fill your bath tub with SW. Then tell your son he has to take a bath with a dragon.....SCARY

Re: My new fish

I'm sure he meant the best. Maybe his feelings are just hurt.
Call your son and make things beter.

I think if your not into this hobby, things like this may sound silly to the non-reef saltwater folk like us... To them its just a big pretty gold fish bowl...

That anything can live in...
