Re: New Rare fish in the shop

I'm gonna have to go back to the LFS to see which one it was. The major differences, at least looking at those pics, seems to be the tail ... and the peppermint and two spot look a little more elegant in the face to me. Could be the pics though.

Re: New Rare fish in the shop

The "rareity" of some fish I think depends on the way an LFS gets fish. I think they go to wholesalers or local breeders?? I dont know since i dont run a shop but there are two LFS's where I live and one always gets the black and white clowns and the other has never had them. When I asked the one that doesnt have them they said they are rare and hardly ever get any. So I think it depends on an LFS's sources to a certain degree.

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents experience.

Re: New Rare fish in the shop

Boomer, I was wondering if the differences had something to do with age. We had a brief discussion of this Genus in my chronicle when I obtained my sepiacaudus. Is this a newly defined species?

Re: New Rare fish in the shop

Hey Boomer, without me reading both of those (lazy), what are they basing the change on? Is it something like coloration or are we talking more like bone structure or habitat?

Re: New Rare fish in the shop

Kathy

Fish species are never based on color. It will deal with things like gill rakers, laterial line scale count, fin ray/spine count, teeth, head/rostrum profile. At times phyloric cacea count, mouth color, bone structure, scale rows, mouth length, various body/or bone ratios and body patterns.

Re: New Rare fish in the shop

Well one persons rare fish is another mans common fish. The Psuedo is a bit rare but not seen often because they are that desirable. The Peppermint Hog can be obtained easily at around a 130.00, where they used to be 400-500 a couple of years ago. The pseudo doesn't do anything for me just like the a Black Tang seems dull to most I absolutely love mine. The Hog is a stunning fish and have always wanted to keep one. Good luck with them. How is the aggression level of the Pseudo? It's not like a Stein's is it? Regards, Tim
